Single game ticket question for those in the know

I am a season ticket holder and there is a single open seat next me. I wanted to buy this single seat for 1 game (any game) this season, but the ticket office refused to sell it because it was marked as a “season ticket” seat. Realizing the likelihood is low that somebody would snatch it up as a season ticket (perhaps I am wrong here?), does anybody know if they will release these at all for single game sales? Ticket office was not helpful at all, except to say they would sell me the season ticket for that seat. Seems odd to me that they would not sell even the Buffalo game at this point.

In the end, I'll just buy a ticket from a scalper and sit in the seat next to mine.

After Buffalo, it won't be a season ticket anymore. It'll be the jacked up price for rutgers and michigan that the office is selling for single games, but it should be the lowered face value $40, for the crap games.
