Slade returning

I asked during the game thread but got mostly joke responses about the lawnboyz chain - but does anyone have insight as to why JB was so emotional after his first TD yesterday?

Didn't his cousin die earlier this week?

Edit: His 17-year-old cousin Paige died on Sunday, and he dedicated the game to her.

Edit #2: BBrown beat me to it.

I’d use Slade a lot more for either passes out of backfield or as another receiver. Try to utilize his speed and catching ability.
That's what I think. Doesn't have to be Slade but a 4 man rotation is not the answer.

It is so awesome to have Slade and Friermuth returning. Brown is a budding star and I would think another year would be in his interest. Ford and Cain both also got a lot of quality work this year for true freshmen. The Lawn Boyz can be the strength of the team next year, really something to build on.

They have to really rebuild that receivers group. They'll have George and Sullivan Brown, Dunmore and TJ Jones, plus Lambert, Dottin and Washington coming in as true freshmen. Plus hopefully some transfers and a bunch of invited walk-ons.

It's a little like after the 2004 season where 2005 pre-season was basically open casting for wideouts and that's how Deon Butler and Jordan Norwood were able to show what they could do -- and they were both ready to play as true freshmen.

If PSU plays it right and Parker can get these guys ready, we should be able to see dramatic improvement at the position. For a program like PSU to go a whole season without a single productive outside receiver is pretty incredible. It will not be two years in a row.

Was it talent? Scheme seemed to be the issue when watching. Outside of the Maryland game and first half of MSU, when did the passing game look good? Or even organized?

What about Journey Brown? If any of us knew anything, we’d already have discussed it. Face it, if Brown or anyone else goes portal, none of us is going to know before it happens. SMH.
Why would Brown enter the portal when he has taken over the starter role and has had multiple 100 yard rushing games. Franklin was gushing about him.

That is a lot of talent in the backfield. Good to have Slade back, but reasonable to expect he would consider to enter the portal for playing time considering he went from expected starter to pretty much 4th back by the end of the year.

No one is talking about the portal, especially when u can enter the draft

Glad to hear Ricky is staying. The coaches need to figure out how to utilize his skills. Run him wide. Use him as an outlet in the passing game. Develop a damn screen game! Punt returns. He's got elite talent once he's in space. Up to the coaches. That said, Slade could become a better pass blocker.

If true that says a lot about the man he is. Willing to compete and grow. He is still great in open space and catching the ball. Hopefully we can find a way to make him a weapon
Perhaps a move to the slot position if Hamler leaves early.

Can #88 play another year of football? Not sure with walk on off the track team but if he concentrated full time on Football with his speed he could be a real factor

Off season focus for Slade should be speed. I'd like to see him in the slot getting some of Hamler's reverses or jet sweep action. He's never going to be a power back. Quit trying to force him up the middle.

Cain is the one I wonder about. How hurt was he? He came in and blocked vs the Buckeyes, but only had one carry. Interesting management. I get it was just Rutgers, but it was very strange.

Much respect to him for hanging in there. This tells me something about him. I hope he kills it next year along with the rest of the crew

:):);):)
So is your premise that any coach would tell the players during the last week of the season whether or not he was leaving for another school? He's still under contract, so why wouldn't the players expect him to be back? And what does one have to do with the other? I've never seen an exodus of dozens of players following any coaching change.
Give up on the coach leaving. As much as it might disappoint you James is going to be in SC for many years to come. His girls will go to high school in that area. So stop all the bullshit. You are full of sound and fury “signifying nothing.” ( or something like that :)).

That’s a lot of people in the backfield..
Can certainly play them based on current redshirt rules, keeping them involved and still get plenty of carries for the 4 upper classmen. Won’t be easy but certainly they will be valued by NFL as was Sanders based on his lack of injury and not being worn out or over utilized. We can hope. Like the six pack chain! :D

I don't give a shit whether he stays or goes, because the NCAA model is broken to the point where only about 8 schools, who pull varying degrees of shifty nonsense, are ever going to be in the championship discussion. I certainly don't want to see Penn State paying a nickel more than what they are now, and I could do without some of this current staff's schoolgirl dramatics.

I was just pointing out that the fanboy I quoted was doing some serious mental gymnastics in order to spin his agenda.

Butler may have been ready as a true frosh, but he was a redshirt.
