So beating arguably the most overranked team in the Top 25 warrants this headline?

From the fine people at ESPN:

"Ohio State sacks USC, Sam Darnold to cement case as best team to miss playoff"

Really??

USC OSU
1st downs 23 13
Total yards 413 277
Turnovers 4 1 (OSU 21pts off TOs)
TOP 34:56 25:04

(Plus a missed USC chipshot FG from 28 yds)

Over a team that had these "convincing" wins on their resume:

27-24 at home over 7-6 TX
28-27 at home over 7-6 UT
28-23 at home over 6-7 UCLA
31-28 vs 9-5 Stanford

Only the first half of the statement - the second half is pure opinion, not 'truth.'

They have the best resume without a doubt. Three top ten wins (four now) and B1G Champs. If you think otherwise fine with me - make your case.

Still a true headline.
If you truly want to base it off their 2 blowout losses (like we were judged last year.) No way they should get a pass. They beat a mediocre USC team (see above record) and squeaked by PSU at home.
Hypocrisy at its worse.

Whatever - they still won. We should have been in last year and they should have been in this year IMO. Doesn’t matter at this point.

I think we need to see how the CFP games play out. What if Bama beats Clemson? Will that end the discussion on whether or not they deserved to get in?

Sam Darnold cemented his case as the best team to miss the playoffs? Poorly written at best.

If PSU goes out and beats Washington by 50, would we then be cementing our case as the best team to miss the playoffs? And why is it a blow out loss in the actual playoffs last year wasn't a case that they shouldn't have been in the playoffs in the first place (according to most talking heads) but a win in a non playoff bowl game is a case that they are the best team not in the playoffs? Can't be both ways.

Notre Dame beat USC 49-14.
That tells you all you need to know.

We were the best not to make the playoffs last year--isn't it the same? Far from hypocritical

That game was played at South Bend and ND was fully rested coming off of a bye week. USC was banged up and wouldn't be getting a bye till the end of the year.

If you think ND would beat Ohio State, I have some nice green land on the moon to sell you. Ohio State noticeably had Darnold rattled the whole game and completely dominated both sides of the LOS.

I think the point is that usc got pasted by an average notre dame team.

Big ten was probably the best conference this year and probably last year. Their Champion should be in "the playoff". I dont care who the team is but ohio st winning only strengthens that argument.

And 1 loss Alabama should not be in because????

Mercer vs UNLV
Colorado State vs Army
Florida State vs Oklahoma
Fresno vs Wisconsin
No 9th conference game vs Iowa at Iowa.

No Contest. Alabama getting in is purely political just like Ohio State getting in last year was. That's why I'm not going to waste my time watching this trumped up "Playoff" if Oklahoma loses. Alabama proves that if we ever schedule any non-Conference game tougher than Pitt, we are nuts. This political farce should be Conference Champs ONLY!

The PAC is embarrassingly horrible. OSUs win doesn’t prove anything other than OSU is better than USC.
