I had forgotten about it, but caught it about 10 minutes in....

Good show - been watching parts of it over the last couple of days. Singers still have good harmony and they do some Don Henley and Joe Walsh material. But man, Joe is one f*cked up dude. His voice sounds like he is completely strung out - even now.

Life's been good for him so far.

Joe's voice has been somewhat unusual for years.

That said, he's really cleaned up his life. CLICK HERE for an article about that.

Life's been good for him so far.

He married the sister of Barbara Bach. That's a little more than life's been good to me so far.

ha...in my youth, I saw him throw up at Filthy McNasty's bar in Kent. I've also heard his Mazarati does 185; he lost his license now he don't drive.

And here I thought the football team had a band or singing group.

Saw the Eagles this past February at MSG right before COVID shut everything down - the show was awesome, they played all the greatest hits plus James Gang material. Basically, the same show you saw on ESPN. Vince Gill fits right in with them. The ticket demand was so high they added an extra show.

Frey’s son and Vince Gill (who is great) have a vocal range that is a little to high for some of the lead vocals on some Eagles songs, IMO.

Have you ever heard Timothy B. Schmidt sing? Or even speak?
Yeah I have and high backing vocals were always part of the Eagles but do you seriously think Frey’s son or Vince Gill have the same vocal tone Glen Frey did? That is what I was referring to.

Why would they? They are not Glen Frey.

Very few singers can get into their 60's/70s and still sing like they could when they were in their 20s/30s. A number of bands either get backup female singers to cover the high end or, they play everything at a lower octave to cover the loss of the singers high end vocals. The Eagles kept the same octaves and got a couple of guys who can get close to the high end vocal of the former band member.

They were fine.

Saw the Hell Freezes Over tour. Always said if that band got back to together I would go no matter what the cost or place. When the lights went down and there was silence in the pitch black (amazing for so many people to be that quiet...) and the opening chords of Hotel California started the place just erupted and a single spot light flashed down on Don Felder it was amazing... still get goose bumps thinking about it. Incredible night with them all singing and the group that to me was closest to sounding just like you were listening to them on a record. I closed my eyes at times and it sounded like I was at home listening to them on my stereo. Amazing group for me that no other group harmony was close to them and they stood the test of time, most had great solo careers outside the band as well.

I thought the son was so close in sound to his Dad that he might have been lip synching, nevertheless, I really enjoyed the concert. Forgot it was on ESPN, was thinking PBS and kept waiting for the fund raising breaks.

saw them at the bjc in 94 during the hell freezes over tour. my wife & i drove up from bucks county after school on a thursday. got there about 7:45. they were to go on at 8:00. somehow got delayed in newark, and did't get there till after nine. as they entered
, the place went nuts. when the crowd settled, they apologized for being late and said not to worry, they'd play all the old stuff and many cuts from the new album. played for over 3 hours, and it was like they'd never broken up. wife and i got home about 3:30 and had to be in school by 8. zombied through the entire day. always liked how the tour got it's name. supposedly, when they broke up, a reporter asked if they'd ever get back together again. either frey or henley answered," yeah, when hell freezes over".

I saw the Eagles on their last tour when Frey was still healthy. It was tremendous. The music was so clean and their voices were great. Walsh got the loudest applause for his songs. Bernie sat in for the early stuff and Walsh was introduced about 25% into the concert. Frey was definitely the driving force. I am so thankful I had a chance to see them.

They closed with Hotel California, Rocky Mts Way and Desparado.

Yup... Henley said that and 14 years later they put the band back together. Things were so bad at the end of the first go round that Henley and Frey could not be in the same studio with each other and recorded their soundtracks in separate studios. Amazing how time heals wounds as when they reunited Henley and Frey were the 2 leaders of the pack. They were the one's who basically I believe told Felder to get lost. From my understanding Frey was very demanding and not the easiest to work with ....

Yeah, he and Felder were at odds a lot.

Recall hearing a story that at the end of a show, the two of them almost came to fisticuffs on stage as they were walking out. Frey reportedly told him that he was out of the band even while they were playing songs that night.

I saw an interview with Felder where he said he had written songs (perhaps even Hotel California) and was promised he would be able to sing - but Henley did the singing. Felder apparently felt he never got the opportunity to shine.

Plus...drugs. Henley and Frey did a LOT of Cocaine. As in....they did all the cocaine that somehow slipped past Tanya Tucker and Steven Tyler.

I think Espn2 is repeating on Mon or Tues

Correct. They were jarring at each other throughout the show. Frey smashed one of Felder’s guitars after the show. The last time they ever played together.

Here’s the story......

At a concert in Long Beach, California for Senator Alan Cranston on July 31, 1980, known as the "Long Night at Wrong Beach", things hit breaking point when the animosity between Felder and Frey boiled over before the show began after Felder said, "You're welcome – I guess" to Cranston and his wife, thus offending Frey.[15] He angrily confronted Felder and the pair began to threaten beatings throughout the show.[16] Felder recalls Frey telling him during "Best of My Love," "I'm gonna kick your ass when we get off the stage." After the concert, Felder smashed, according to Frey, Felder's "cheapest guitar". The Eagles disbanded shortly thereafter

Same experience for me. One of the best shows ever!

Chicago did that in concerts I saw a number of years ago--still good music.

I'm always amazed that the mostly acoustical "Seven Bridges Road" seems to always sound the same regardless of the lineup.

Caught part of it Sunday night and enjoyed what I saw. I saw the Eagles, Steve Miller Band and Pablo Cruise at Comiskey Park back in August '78 while stationed at Great Lakes. Was a great time what is remembered and they closed out with Tequila Sunrise..
