Some of our left leaning friends continue to call the Jan 6 event an insurrection. Are they gaslighting us? What is an insurrection, really? On jan 6th there were about 2,000 people, some had military training, some were violent, some had plans to stop vote certification, some yelling to "hang pence", vast majority unarmed, and large segments wandering through "the people's house" with some of these actually receiving guided tours.....shouldn't have happened but it did.

But was this an insurrection? Well, according to an article in the WSJ

"The demonstrators who unlawfully entered the Capitol during the Electoral College count were unarmed and had no intention of overthrowing the U.S. constitutional system or engaging in a conspiracy “against the United States, or to defraud the United States.” On the contrary, many of them believed—however erroneously—that the U.S. constitutional system was in jeopardy from voter fraud, and they desperately lashed out in a dangerous, reckless hysteria to protect that system.

The media’s mischaracterization of these events created a moral panic that unfairly stigmatized Trump supporters across the nation as white supremacists conspiring to overthrow the U.S. government, resulting in the unnecessary mobilization of armed U.S. troops in Washington."

According to Joe Biden, mocking those who participated ....(paraphrasing) you'd need F16s to overthrow the government.....I don't think he believed that Jan 6th had any intention to overthrow the government...after all Trump was still President.

So are we convinced that jan 6 was an insurrection? If yes, why has the federal government not charged all the "insurrectionists" which that charge? Can the few people charged with sedition or insurrection actually have taken over the government? And, if it wasn't an insurrection why do our friends on the left call it that? And if it wasn't an insurrection, why has the federal government charged Trump?

Now, I realize that there are multiple viewpoints on the question whether Jan 6 was an insurrection, a protest, a riot, or a group of patriotic americans gone rogue. I'd wager that comments, should there be any will be politically leaning. Lots of questions, It will be interesting to see the logic people have for their opinions.
