So, I guess we're all Colorado fans tonight, right?

I've been a Colorado fan since Kordell Stewart to Michael Westbrook. :)

You have to be kidding. That one play cost us a National Championship.

I knew as soon as that play happened that we no longer controlled our own destiny, no matter how good we were. The only chance we had to win the National Championship was for Nebraska to lose, which of course they didn't.

Maybe tonight they can make up somewhat for it and beat Washington.

Do me a favor tonight Buffs. You owe us one.

No it didn't. Tom Osborne was getting his MNC. ....

Not necessarily that year though. It was all transitive bs since we weren't going to get to smoke them on the field. Them beating Michigan and then losing to UNL was absolutely a big factor.

Washington losing likely benefits Michigan more than it does Penn State so I'm rooting for Washington. Want to see Jimmy crying one more time this year.

Let's say um beat Colorado and everything else played out the same way. Penn State still beats Indiana 35-29, which doesn't impress the voters and Penn State slips to #2. That's all she wrote.

Nope. Our win over Michigan would have meant more than Nebraska's win over Colorado. Colorado screwed us big time by winning that game. I guess you could say that Michigan screwed us too by losing it.

Now THAT was a "fluke" play.

Washington winning doesn't help us at all. I'd rather "Jimmy" be "crying" because WE jumped him rather than Washington.

If you believe PSU is jumping Michigan I have some swampland you might be interested in.
Let's say that there is some scenario where two big ten teams make the playoffs. This likely has to include both Clemson and tOSU losing. There is no freaking way they could justify leaving out the big ten champ and putting in tOSU and Michigan. Yeah, I know that they can actually do that. What I mean is that this would either result in an abrupt end to todays playoff system or destroy the entire conference model we have today. Then again, I've always believed that they don't want fair and resolved on the field. They want controversy which will drive water cooler and radio talk show talk. I guess internet clicks too, in today's world.

Bob is taking a beating just like our culture.

I forget which book it was in, but I think it was Missanelli's (sp). Everyone wants to point to the UM/CU and PSU/Indiana games as the games that cost us the MNC, but it really isn't so. Let me lay it out.....

After Colorado beats Michigan, CU is ranked 4, UM is ranked 5 (keep this in mind)

The poll on October 11th had Florida 1 with 44 first place votes, Nebraska 2nd with 12 and Penn State 3rd with only 2. So, bear in mind, at that point, Nebraska is fairly solidly ahead of us.

For the poll on 10/18, we've beaten Michigan. We are now in 1st with 19 first place votes, Colorado 2nd/15, Nebraska 3rd/25. So 2 things there....
1. The pollsters thought enough of our win against UM to vault us over Nebraska despite the fact that UM had already lost to Colorado. The win was impressive enough to vault us over Nebraska.
2. Nebraska had more first place votes and our margin over both Colorado and Nebraska was very thin...only about 25 total points.

On 10/25, PSU has a bye, the polls remain essentially unchanged.

On 11/1, Nebraska has beaten Colorado, Penn State has beaten Ohio State. Nebraska 1/33, PSU 2/28. Meanwhile, UM has $hit the bed and lost that same day to go to5-3, so even without the Colorado loss, that win is looking less impressive. While the Ohio State win is impressive, they're ranked 21st at the time. Even if Colorado had lost to Michigan, they're still ranked at least 5th, so whether they're ranked 5th or 2nd, UNL's win over them looks more impressive than our win over OSU that day, and the UM win has lost its luster NOT because of their loss to CU, but their loss to whomever they lost to that day (too lazy to look it up).

Bottom line....our margin in the polls over Nebraska was very small. A win over a 1 loss Colorado was going to have about the same effect as a win over and undefeated Colorado.

The sentiment was totally in for Osborne....he was getting his MNC that year regardless of whether UM beat Colorado.

Even if you're correct 87 I'd like to be irrationally angry and bitter about it. At least give me that.

psu - wisky winner has not shot. this just puts UM in the final 4. I am for Washington to make better final 4.

F_(k you a$$hole. Unless VT wins tomorrow, your precious mongrel Huskies have just relegated us to the Miss Congeniality Contest tomorrow. Not only that, that friken Colorado QB will probably recover and we'll have to play that shi++y Colorado team in the who cares Rose Bowl in a no win, who cares game.

You a$$holes that root against Michigan more than you root for us drive me nuts. Bama will boot stomp that lucky Washington team by 3 or 4 TDs. Not only that, after watching them against a team with no QB or WRs, I think we would boot stomp them. Unfortunately, not only might we not get a chance now, we will probably have to play a healthy Colorado team and be unfairly compared to a team that got to play them while they were damaged goods.

Congratulations. Enjoy your meaningless Flower Powderpuff Bowl.
