So Rand Paul wants to audit the Fed; good idea or bad?

He wants a true and independent audit of the Fed unlike the one done by their in-house auditor. Is this a good idea or not? Seems like a good idea to at least see just what they have been doing. I don't want Congress or the Pres to interfere too much but I don't trust a bunch of secretive bankers either.

If you think Paul's proposal is a bad idea, what reforms would you recommend ....if any?
