Even harder to understand why ACC cupcake NC State is rated ahead of us. They beat 3 garbage teams so far.
Well for some reason they have 5 ACC teams ranked (2 with 1 loss already) and believe it or not NC ST's win over Texas tech is probably the best team any of them have beaten. Even Clemson at #5 looks pretty soft to me so far.
Only 3 big 10 teams are even ranked, the least of all power 5 conferences. 8 are SEC teams.
Not much quarrel, but very much agree about NC State and Utah. Clemson will also be a 2 loss team this year I think. Arkansas escaped FCS Missouri State by the skin of their teeth, but wasn’t punished much in the poll.
I believe PSU should be around 12/13, but doesn’t really matter at this point.

If we take care of business, we should be ranked in the top 10 when we go to Michigan in October. Then, it’s ON!!!

Keep in mind, the pollsters had ND, aTm, Utah and Baylor Top 10 in their inaugural poll.
I'm surprised it's that high but it really doesn't matter. PSU should win the next 2 and others will lose. Possibly top 10 heading to Michigan and top 5 if we beat them. Lose to Michigan and we're back to 15th.
Utah only has 18 more votes than us--that will correct itself. Some people truly believed Utah would contend for a National Title this year so they're holding onto that despite the Florida loss.
Jim and his Big Blue Machine will be almost impossible to beat as this team is at least 3 deep at every position. The most powerful Michigan team in probably 4 decades
That's true. The recruiting classes have been strong. Even OSU better watch out this year. Fear the khaki!

I counted 2 unranked. They should drop the high 3 and low 3 for each team. I'd also say they should calculate the variance for each team weekly and if a voter has a variance above some determined threshold then throw their votes out. If they do this 3 times in a season then remove them from voting privileges.
The goal is to get accurate rankings not to have certain writers influence a team they either like or don't like.
Excellent ideas. Lots of games played with the voting. Helping your conference. Boosting the team you play next. Making your own schedule look better.
They're going to be tough but everyone is beatable. Right now I don't see PSU winning, but how good is Michigan really? They looks complete. How good is PSU? They keep looking better to me, so I hope for the best.
Agreed but UM has played nobody with a pulse. (Co. State, Hawaii and UConn). Plus they haven't played on the road. Contrast that to PSU who played at Purdue (9 wins not including a bowl game win over ranked Tenn) and Auburn (in SEC country).
UM plays MD, Iowa and Indiana before playing us. MD looks improved so that might be fun. Iowa doesn't have an offense (and, I mean that almost literally). In fact, UM has one of the easiest schedules for a major team in the nation. What was their quality OOC game? Their crossover games are Iowa, NEB and Illinois. It is a shamefully easy schedule for a team that aspires to win a championship.
The crappier the teams ahead of us are, the easier it is to move up. I would much rather be ranked below our actual ability (which of course I am only capable of making hopeful guesses about) than above our actual ability. The best part is, you win them all and there is no question you are going to the CFP. Tall order? Yeah, but not nearly so tall as it would be without a running game or with a crippled Sean Clifford. Btw, anyone who says he is not a tough SOB is a liar.
We were one broken play from possibly beating them last year when they beat OSU and made the playoff.
We had zero running game last year. Clifford never got 100% healthy.
I'd have to think our chances have to be better this year than last.
