So we've done favorite and most influential how about most underappreciated Band...

Besides some great ones already mentioned:

Sebadoh
Deerhoof
Cibo Matto
Built to Spill
Dexy's Midnight Runners
Television
LITE (Japanese prog rock)
King's X

The Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Dandy Warhols. Both star in an incredible documentary called 'Dig!' which is about how the two bands seek to become stars in a post-grunge rock world. One does it much better than the other. TBJM's frontman Anton Newcombe was just too stubborn and talented to play the corporate game (also, lots of drugs) and TBJM never really went anywhere. They were legendary for their on-stage meltdowns and just never gave a sh*t. A shame since they've put out some really, really good music (I believe Newcombe is responsible for the Boardwalk Empire opening theme and he plays something like a hundred instruments...). The Dandy Warhols achieved much bigger success, but never really got widespread fame/attention they deserve. '13 Tales from Urban Bohemia' is a near perfect album.'

Could also say Pixies here, but they're acknowledged by pretty much everyone of their greatness.

You can watch the whole Dig! documentary on YouTube...even if not a fan of the music, the story is pretty interesting to watch.

I honestly didn’t know they won 2 Grammys! Saw them this past summer with Beck and Spoon. They were great and are excellent live.

Beck is weirdly underappreciated noting he's won Grammy's too.

Wow. Impressive concert lineup.
Yes it was and Cage stole the show. That and the fact there was a storm delay sort of derailed Beck. The concert was at Merriweather Post in MD and some local ordnance mandates concerts to end be 11 or 11:30. So Beck got the short end. And yes, I think Beck is somewhat under appreciated, great talent.

Wow, never thought I would see these bands mentioned. That period coincided with my move to Portland. I've been told about the doc but never watched it. Will check it out tonight.

I don't think that Masters of Reality got the attention they deserved. I don't want to wade too deep into this as a perusal of the first page reminds me that Little Feat also didn't get the acclaim they deserved.

But who gets what they deserve?

Not at in Tampa we all waiting around for the brilliant pop genius of Beck to appear and when he finally did we were rewarded and everything resolved itself in a triumphant display of sheer joy and whimsy.

Lou Barlow (Sebadoh, Dinosaur Jr. , Folk Implosion etc) is prolific....CRIMINALLY underrated/under-appreciated

Built to Spill is very good... might add Snow Patrol , too

Ian Dury and the Blockheads. They have so much more than Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll.
Norman Watt-Roy is an amazing bassist.

Days of the New

And most of the band then formed Tantric after a fallout with the lead singer

Jon Butcher Axis
Triumph
Santana
Asia
Queensryche
Franke and the Knockouts
Toto
Ambrosia
Michael Stanley Band
Donnie Iris and the Cruisers

Here's underappreciated - and I think they're tripping on acid on Shel's houseboat.

Most of the NOLA phunk and Jazz scene are under appreciated nationally IMO. Meters, Trombone Shorty, Rebirth Brass Band, Dirty Dozen, Galactic, Soul Rebels, Kermit Ruffins.....etc. George Porter and Dumpstaphunk in particular....Porter is the man.

I’ll give you a genre under appreciated by almost an entire generation. Grunge rock (alternative? Whatever you want to call it) is under appreciated by the classic rock crowd. It’s essentially all just rock and roll (and I like it!) but some dismiss as being not as good as music from their generation. I think Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Rage, etc..... are right up there with The Who, Stones, Allman brothers, etc....
I can guarantee there is some great rock music coming out now that I don’t appreciate because I just don’t listen to as much new music as I did in my younger days but I wouldn’t dismiss it as not being as good as classic rock or 90s grunge.
