My fears about the O-line came to fruition. They were beyond atrocious. That said, there were some bright spots from the team even in that performance. Here goes:
1. Before getting hurt Brandon Bell was an absolute MONSTER. All over the field making solid tackles and truly living up to his new number 11.
2. Carl Nassib- we heard about him preseason and he impressed. Showed a lot of heart even when the game got out of hand.
3. Tackling- before they tired (who wouldn't tire being on the field that much?), the tackling was very solid. Wrapped guts up, not much YAC at all. Impressive.
4. Special teams- in all aspects they looked much improved. Coverage was better. Julius looked ok. Pasquariello got off some nice punts too. This bodes well.

What do people think? I realize we are all in a terrible mood this morning, but how about some bright spots?

Koa Farmer as a returner was also a bright spot. And Polk showed flashes of his speed.

I agree with the above. Bell and Nassib were great. Hope Bell's injury is not serious.

ESPN had pre-season predictions for our chance of winning each game. There were only 2 games (OSU and MSU) where they gave our opponents a better chance of winning. So, we were the favorite in every other game. You know which one of those was the closest? Temple. They only gave us a 53% chance of winning.

think of the ODDS if you knew Wartman would go out end of 1st qtr and Bell would twist ankle. no clear depth to absorb those injuries.

The Wartman-White loss is huge. That said, our best LB is Bell and hopefully his injury is minor.

OK, 2 bright spots. The loss was to a team led by a former Penn State player. No one died.

That sums it up..... as far as we know, no one died. But it is hard for me to believe that of all the die hard PSU fans that watched that abysmal display of inept OL and QB play that at least of few didn't damage their hearts and shorten their projected life spans somewhat. In fact, I'm thinking I may want to get a thorough physical to be on the save side.

Hey, you gave me an idea. Maybe I start a class action lawsuit against Penn State for damages caused by yesterday's debacle. We know that just threatening the lawsuit will result in a sweet settlement. Thanks!

Punt coverage hurt us in the second half when the gunners missed tackles on two returns that went deep into PSU territory and I think those plays further demoralized a tired defense.
Nassib's play wasn't good enough to overcome Sickles' failure to contain the edge.

I wouldn't say Nassib was "great" but he had some good moments, and other times he whiffed or lost contain. He will get better but his lack of size may show against the B1G.

I thought Julius looked pretty good (and of course obscenely fat). I'm happy with him so far.

Akeel Lynch is great if he gets daylight, that's for sure.

One wonders how the game would have turned out had Lewis not dropped that one deep ball over the middle...

When you're presenting your opening argument and they're looking at you like you're crazy, just say "Lastly, I once got a shower in the Lasch Building", and see who writes you a check the fastest.

Hope the Special Teams and Defense can play lights out the next 5 weeks, so the offense can get it together enough to win those games.

"lack of size" ??
Nassib is bigger, taller and heavier (6'6", 272lbs), than either of last year's starting DE's. He really is almost the exact same size as Bosa. Will Bosa's lack of size show against the B1G????????
Bosa is 6'6", 275lbs.
As Nassib plays more and gets more comfortable as a starter he should improve and be at least as good as the DE's he replaced.
