Can someone provide a few tips on a way to negotiate this site in an efficient way. That is go from topic to topic without returning to "start" after every topic. I have not used it much lately because it seems so cumbersome to use. Maybe it is just that I am not an intuitive techie.

It is cumbersome, it's impersonal, it's tech-oriented.

It's as if the McAndrew Board has been infected by the "Board of Trustees" virus, a virus that seemingly serves no purpose but to cause ongoing pain and suffering where before there was none.

In short, the new format sucks.....I recommend a good drink!

I've been using it since day one and still don't know what the hell I'm doing. I've been using the trial and error method and I get by, but they really should have some type of tutorial.

As Clunky as it was - old thread view was like bellying up to the counter at an iconic stainless steel train car diner for a cup of coffe, eggs and home fries.... Then they Bulldozed it an put up this gave us this freakin' Arby's
Just drink your orange cream shake and like it.

I really like to 'go with the flow' but I must say I don't like the message board like I once did. I don't understand why it changed and nobody seems to be explaining the new positives that I am not seeing. Sure would like that info.

I have come to the conclusion that Rivals doesn't give a sheet what we think. I once worked for a manager who explained it...."it's my way, or the highway". The highway is looking better and better.

pretty much feel the same way. i find it greatly less appealing. this is my first post since the change. i'm a visual person, and this format is not visually easy to navigate. the one positive though, i spend a great deal less time here, probably a good thing :). i never liked tos site, as it's similar to this, but now find it easier to navigate than this mess, so and i'm spending more time there.

I am with you. Also my first post sine the format change. I am only here no because I haven't changed BWI as my home page yet. It has freed up about an hour a day for me. I have gone from visiting several times a day to a few times a week. I find the new format too confusing. I find myself re=reading threads I have already seen.

Well, I adjusted to life without season ticket, I can adjust to life without this board. I have better thing to do with my time than to wade through this mess.

That's part of the problem. We're educated people, for the most part, and we know that we have better things to do than to spend time on this board. That part of the equation hasn't changed, but, as Manca says, It's an Arby's now. Some people were wizards with subject line responses, as far as I'm concerned it was an art form.

I haven't seen Lion DeNittany on this board lately, sad, but remember when Rivals went to default topic view and he set up a thread calling for haiku in support of thread view? Lol at the memory.

I can't believe that some folks are having so much difficulty with the new board layout that they are being driven away. It's different, but it isn't difficult to navigate.

If it is so good, why not answer some questions about navigating. Are there defaults for each person or just one for the entire site? For me, it has given me more time to do other things because I hate to be clicking things and not getting what I want. I have spent less time than usual since this change.

It's not that it's difficult....it's that I don't like it. Visually compared to the old board it sucks. But then what do I know...I'm only a customer.

I agree, it's a pain in the arse. I'm spending about the same amount of time here as I did before because I wanted to give it a month or so before deciding whether to leave, stay, or just cut back. My biggest regret is that so many long timers, like yourself Roar More, have either left, or seldom visit. It has changed the character of the Board in a negative way. I had hopes that many who have left, or cut back, would return, but that does not seem to be happening.:(

It's not that it's difficult to navigate (it's not), it's that the old McA board with thread view had a certain magnetism that just isn't there now.

Very true. I appreciate the wit and humor of many posters, like ILLINOISLION, but now some of those folks are gone, or seldom post, and even if they are still here, you have to work to find their posts. Also, there is not the banter that showed up on the old thread view. The old format was like sitting around having beer with a group of friends. This is more like being at an event where you know just a couple of people and the conversation is more disjointed and stilted.

I find the new format to be far better than the old. I must admit that I am more subject oriented than poster oriented. It is the subject and the variety of poster opinions that attract me. I find that being poster oriented is to be more limited in one's view (ignores those who post less but have valuable input).
Some of the advantages of the new format:
- takes you back to where you last read/posted - real time saver.
- alerts you to inputs where posts have been added to threads you have already posted in - this allows one to concentrate on subjects of one's interest to the exclusion of threads of non-interest.

Yes, if one is interested in banter between just certain posters, he/she will be displeased with the new format.

Trying to be positive and looking for ways to efficiently navigate new site, but bottom line is I spend a lot less time on the new formatted site. I find it very cumbersome and lose interest quickly while trying to navigate the site.

It is better for topic view, but horrible for those who prefer thread view. They are different experiences.

Its the "New Coke" for what that's worth

Question--is there a way I can tell which post you're responding to?

It's horseshit.... I have given it some time and I don't care about the old top-posted/stale topics that continuously get " bumped up". I'm done here

The default setting is "last message." But, you can go to the top and hit "Start Date" to change it so the most recent "threads" are at the top and NOT a "thread" that someone just replied to that's two weeks old.

But those of us who preferred the thread view had the choice of using it, just as you had the choice of not using it. Now there is no choice. It's like Obamacare..."do it my way whether you want to or not."
That was the best part of the old system. It was a matter of choice. I really don't like the new format, but I am hanging in. I don't know if I'd leave completely, but if we continue to lose people whose posts I enjoy, I will likely cut way back.
