I won’t relitigate the Roberson comments on this board, but I believe this Iowa loss finally exposed other areas where we knew there could be issues, but were areas that perhaps most of us were willing to overlook in wins.
1. Running game/OL. This unit let us down again. Is it the OL in general? Scheme? Our running back room was supposed to be an area of strength this season. After 6 games it looks like a mess. Everyone looks slow even when OL opens some creases. Hit the hole with some speed! If we’re slow, maybe stop trying to run off tackle?
2. TE room. Supposed to be an area of strength. Only somewhat targeted our TEs today; when they were targeted there were drops.
if you account for the above two areas, then essentially we were hanging our season on good to great QB-WR play, good special teams and great defense. The key to getting the ball to WRs is Clifford. Once Clifford got injured, our lack of #1 and #2 above really showed.
If Clifford is going to be out for awhile, then our OL run blocking/RB room and TEs better step up in a big way in the coming weeks to help out Roberson.
