Sounds like our old QB coach Charlie Fisher

He’s a great coach. I’m glad that he continues to find employment after Flying Lying OBrien fired him after 2013.

There were some who have said that BOB’s decision to remove Fisher and Vanderlinden was not his decision and was Joyner’s.

I just throw that out there for discussion. Maybe Tom can weigh in on this one. I know that Tom has stated, on a couple of occasions, that the decision to put names on the jersies was not BOB’s.

I would love to know the story behind his and Vanderlinden’s “dismissals” by Billo.
I think Vandys is obvious, he was one of JVP guys, who I think PSU asked BOB to keep for a year and see.
CHARLIE? BOB hired CHARLIE. What I suspect is Charlie is an FCA guy, every other word out of BOBs mouth is a F-bomb. I think that caused friction and BOB cut him loose

I don’t think Vandy’s pink slip was as simple as being a JVP associate.

No way would Bill O allow Joyner to dictate staff dismissals.

I always thought Charlie was fired because he couldn't teach Hack accuracy on his short passes. Turns out nobody could.

Why? He let him dictate everything else.

Names on jerseys? Check.
Presentation to bot? Check.
Massive unwarranted sanctions to program? Check.

While I agree that it would appear inconceivable, Joyner was an egotistical, arrogant, pr*^k who wanted everyone--including Bill O--to know who the boss was.

FLO had a way about him. Who knows, maybe he planted the SI story.

Change comes and there are always people disgruntled with the result. Thus, there were plenty of potential sources for that story.

What I don't get was how O'Brien was dumb enough to allow himself to be put on point (by Fester) to review and recommend changes to physician coverage for the football team. That is typically not a coach's call and O'Brien should have known better. Once it became a cause celebre, he should have known that he was set up. Perhaps he did.

Hmm, I see my input is requested.

Vanderlinden's dismissal had nothing to do with Joyner, or any other administrator at PSU. Ron's coaching approach was pretty successful, and as such he was resistant to change. BOB felt a different approach should be taken, and as head coach it was ultimately his decision.

As for Fisher, my apologies, but I never sought any inside info on what happened with him.

To the original point of the thread... does it bother anyone else besides me that Fisher just signed 13 kids to a letter of intent 2 days ago and then bolts for a new job?

"Good luck guys I'm sure you'll do great here...but I don't want to be there. See ya."

Blame the early signing period. Kids sign w a school not a coach

I appreciate you setting me straight. As for RV, I think Bill would have been better served to accept a time-honored approach. I always got the impression that Bill's opinion of defense was that it was just something you did when you didn't have the ball.

BOBs only mission when he was at PSU was to solidify himself as an offensive guru for the NFL. Stay afloat, get some skill guys and he'd be fine because at time OL had good experience returning as did D. So he made sure to get a QB, TE, WRs etc and didn't spend much time worrying about his O line or D. It worked for him, but still kind of left a mess in his wake as it retarded the O line that we are still working on years later.

Coach Fish were fired because OB was going to bring in George Godsey as QB coach and OC. Vandy was fired as OB was bringing in Mike Vrable as LB coach and co-DC with Butler. When the Texans deal popped up, none of the hires were needed. OB then brought them both to Houston.
