Any thoughts on what this could be?

A special meeting of the Penn State Board of Trustees will be held via conference call at 3 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 15. The purpose of this is to consider a matter involving the University's medical enterprise. This meeting is open to the public for listening purposes on an audio feed at wpsu.org/trustees online.

Announcing a radical new transplant procedure. They will transplant intelligence, character, class, morals, and integrity into several key BoT members. Newer, powerful anti-rejection drugs have been developed to stop host from rejecting such foreign materials. Intensive monitoring and therapy will be necessary to track the development of these new characteristics.

Joyner has made great advances in the field of felching and the university wants to create a new medical department based on his research.

Stupid question. Is "the University's medical enterprise" a fancy way of saying Hershey Medical Center? Currently that is the enterprise, yes?

I wouldn't be surprised if we are expanding Hershey Medical through a merger. It's happening all over ( at Penn, Jerfferson, etc) for example. Adding more hospitals to the network generally makes sense, as its harder for the smaller groups to compete for Doctors and patients. It's also more efficient to funnel the more serious cases to the main hub. Not sure who the targets might be, perhaps a Geisinger or Lancaster General who are both already big in center all Pa. This all pure conjecture on my part, but if they're not doing this, perhaps they should.

Finally! A normal fricken response. My guess is that they will announce a large hub in State College under the Hershey brand. Only a guess.

Bob,

Technically the full enterprise is now called Penn State Health (as opposed to Hershey Medical Center).

C’mon man if I can take the time to learn how to use the quote feature correctly you can certainly keep up with the proper names of the University enterprises.

I. AM. OUTRAGED.

The board has passed him by. He needs to retire.

The meeting might have something to do with the recently proposed CVS Health-Aetna merger, which would affect the University's health care administration for employees. The University announced in August that on Jan. 1, 2018, Aetna will become the third-party administrator (TPA) for the University’s medical benefits, and CVS Caremark will become the TPA for the University’s prescription drug benefits, both replacing Highmark, which has been the TPA for the medical and prescription drug benefits plans for the past ten years.

Puzzle pieces? :

“replacing Highmark, which has been the TPA for the medical and prescription drug benefits plans for the past ten years.”

“I wouldn't be surprised if we are expanding Hershey Medical through a merger.”

The CVS Aetna merger is a game changer and perhaps the way healthcare will evolve with large mega corporations owning everything. Think of Amazon owning drug companies, hospital chains, insurance companies, physician practices, and medical equipment manufacturers. It could be interesting but I'm not looking forward to it. Right now 25% of the country's GDP goes into healthcare spending, and there are many countries which spend far less but have a higher life expectancy. Some of this could be genetic. On the other hand the quality of healthcare in the USA is the best in the world.

They tried already. They tried to merge with Pinnacle Health which covers much of the Harrisburg region. The state denied the merger claiming too much of a monopoly (despite Geisinger/ Holy Spirit in town too). Then, somehow, the state allowed Pinnacle to merge with UPMC. There’s not much left for Hershey to merge with.

Will the hub be wrapped in tin foil with a streamer coming out that says Hershey's? That sounds like my kind of healthcare.
