Two part proposal; One, ask for Mexico to hold a referendum to be annexed into the US. Divide the country into ten states and have a ten year transition before full statehood. We could shut down the drug cartels, develop their oil, gas, and other resources, clean up the corrupt government, reduce crime, develop vast new coastlines for tourism, and have much smaller southern border to stop further illegal immigration from Latin America.
With 25% of Mexicans currently in the US and many more that would if they could, it should pass. If it fails, or Mexico refuse to hold it, then pass new immigration laws that will treat illegals here the same way Mexico treats any US citizen that enters Mexico illegally. That is they are held in jail until deported and anyone holding a job or buying property goes to jail for a couple of years before deportation. Seems only fair that illegals in either direction are treated the same.
