You guys have to see the video to believe this one:

District 3 AAA duals, tourney final. Heated rivals. Not unimportantly: they each brought their own trainers, and their benches were next to each other on the same side of the mat. CV won 29-28 on criteria, most total match points, after 2 DQs (one each way) that can be charitably called questionable.

First one went against CV. State ranked 160 Felix Belga winning, did a hard mat return that's encouraged in Greco but probably borderline in folk. Opponent hit the mat hard, shoulder first, face did hit. Side ref called illegal slam on Belga. CD coaches had him checked for a concussion and allegedly told him to stay down.

195 DQ went against CD. Their wrestler blatantly eye-poked CV with 3 high face slaps in succession, at least one of the thumbs hit the target. Ref stops the action. CV wrestler returns to center, ready to go -- until his bench orders him to get checked by the trainer. Sure enough, CV wrestler ruled unable to continue.

During the exam, CV coaches left the bench to taunt CD coaches and strutted around the mat like they just knocked out Mike Tyson. CD head coach blew his stack, pushed his assistants out of the way to get at CV coaches. Both sets of coaches needed to be restrained. Security had to be called.

I hope both teams' wrestlers learned the lesson that sometimes adults are jackasses.

If that was on the mat....the hallways and parking lot should have been fun too.

That well runs deep....

This man approves

A few thoughts:

1. No problem with the ref's calls during the match.

2. There should have been a pre-designated physician for the event.

3. If I were the PIAA, I'd eliminate both teams from advancing to Hershey.

Concur with all of the above.

I'll add that, while I have no problem with the ref's calls, he also lost control and didn't do enough toward the coaches.

CD coaches should not have been able to tell their 160 to stay down during the concussion check, as alleged. I don't know that they actually did, but they shouldn't have been allowed close enough to possibly do so, If the PIAA concussion rules allow this, then the rules need to be changed.

CV coaches should not have been able to stop the match for the eye check when their wrestler was ready to wrestle and not seeking injury time or help.

The ref should have thrown all the coaches on both teams out of the gym and assessed a team penalty against CV for instigating that skirmish.

If I were the PIAA, I'd also suspend the coaches. There is precedent: in Jan 2014 the PIAA effectively forced Palisades HS to fire their head coach for forfeiting every weight to Bethlehem Catholic. Officially they barred any school he coached from participating in 2014 and 2015. (The school had immediately suspended him and likely would've fired him anyway.)

I don't think this was a firing offense, but the PIAA should make a very public example out of all of these clowns.

That video was pretty bad. The CV coach looks like an arrogant a$$ with the strutting and taunting and saw at least 1 CV player taunting the CD fans rather than celebrating with his team. The CD coach had to be held back with no self control. Not a wrestling expert by any means but hope they both get punished.

Both of these guys Heckard and Sweigard know better and are generally good guys. Swags would do anything to help other non CD kids during the summer. I'm sure they both feels like jerks for what took place. I agree with some form of punishment.

Just watched the video. The mat return was not near as bad as I thought it would be. The kids arm was trapped and he could not use it to help break the blow. The hands to the face was excessive but not the worst I have seen. I never like the DIII team championship venue. Having both teams on the same side is asking for trouble. There are plenty of other venues to hold this event at. Heckard did seem to be the instigator.

They were both correct calls.

The can't continue to wrestle for both of those kids was terrible. Those coaches made poor decisions.

Don't agree that it was a slam. If his arm was not trapped it would not have been that bad. I do agree that concussion protocol should have been applied as his head to hit the mat pretty hard. The hands to the face was an obvious call but again I have seen worse not called.

On the slam, He did not safely return the wrestler to the mat. Just my opinion

I don't think that the referee's calls are the point here. The behavior of the coaches, particularly Heckard, was grade school level and certainly not what is expected of leaders of high school students. The schools should take action against the coaches without prodding from the PIAA.

Pretty embarrassing all around. Not a good look. I'm sure we all have seen our fair share of bad behavior at meets. Wrestling seems to get the blood boiling no doubt
