Staying in Phoenix or Glendale?

Just wondering where folks are thinking of staying? I found a hotel near the stadium and the Westgate entertainment complex so we won't have to worry about parking. However, I've seen cheaper options in downtown Phoenix (17 miles away). Even the Thompson Tour hotel (Sheraton Grand Phoenix) is cheaper option.

For some context, we'll be driving in from Pasadena so we will have our car so driving between Phoenix and Glendale isn't a problem but I was concerned about parking for the game (parking for the Rose Bowl is a nightmare).

North Scottsdale. Many nice resorts to choose from. Do you prefer "cheap" or "nice"?

We’re just going for a few days for the game/pep rally and less as a vacation so nice and affordable are important.

Last year, since we live in Pasadena, we missed some of the camaraderie of seeing and hanging out with fellow Penn State folks. So it’s more about getting a little taste of PSU for us.

The problem, like last year at the Rose Bowl, is that the PSU'ers will be scattered all over the Greater Phoenix area. Your best bet might be to find out where the PSU team/administrative hotel will be and then search that area.

Scottsdale has traditionally been where the team and media hotels are.

Sarasota. Nicer weather this time of the year. When PSU is in a FL bowl game, then I will go.

Never had a chance when I was working because I would have had to know the date of PSU’s bowl game a year ahead of time to get the appropriate time off.

My sister-in-law lives in Scottsdale, so that’s where we’ll be. Can’t beat free lodging.

I live in Troon/North Scottsdale, and have been to 4 of the 6 PSU Fiesta Bowls (missed 1977 v ASU my SR year @ PSU and was at ASU/OSU Rose Bowl in 1997 when PSU played TEX). If budget allows, stay in Scottsdale. Great and quite varied restaurants and nightlife galore, awesome hotels/resorts, golf and more golf, and finally, landscape and female scenery aplenty.
Downtown PHX would be Option 2, Tempe option 2A, Glendale a distant option 4 unless you are here for JUST the game/1-2 days.
