Still say Bo was sending a message for next time they meet

Did you see how quickly Bo was at center mat for the handshake and have his arm raised? He was starring Myles down the entire time with this "how do you like me now? You can run but you can't hide...it will be worse next time." kind of stare. Martin looked completely dejected that the match ended with him not only being taken to his back, but being held there for an extended period of time (e.g., "saved by the bell" and nothing else). After Bo got off him, he laid there for a few moments and looked very dejected and defeated (like: I thought I had a chance and he just chewed up and spit out my best effort there...). Or maybe he was just dreading the verbal beatdown his Dad is going to put on him for trying to actually win the match rather than just keep it close for "optics"....

Regardless, I think Bo was sending a message for B1G's with the way he closed out that match and from the looks of it, I believe "the message" was received loud and clear by the intended receiver. I no longer think Myles thinks he can beat Bo - I think he believes the best he can do is keep it really close if that is his goal rather than winning...

I think Bo was just being Bo and wrestling a full 7 minutes and having fun...nothing more, nothing less. The message being sent and on a consistent basis is that you better be prepared to wrestle a full 7 minutes against anyone Penn State sends out on the mat.

I would prefer if you guys did not bring his dad into this. I enjoyed his fathers comments. It is threads like this that makes them stop posting.

Otherwise, spot on.
Fair enough. Will do so I'll just forget about his disparaging remarks about the State College area and for trying to paint me and every other citizen in the region as a redneck racist.

I did not read his message saying that. That changes my view.
I don't bookmark things to pull up later but I'm sure someone out there has it. I think there was actually a couple sites where he made comments and innuendos about PSU and its people. I never had a problem with him until someone posted links. Kinda struck me in bad way.

Too bad for him. PSU is a great place to be. My family loves going there, and I hope my kid gets good enough grades to be accepted there.

Agree. Martin may have been dejected, but I really doubt that Nickal was trying to send any message after the match. Just business as usual.

In the interview after the match Cael was sitting right next to Bo. One of the reporters asked Bo about his strategy when wrestling Martin. Bo was about to answer when Cael tapped his arm and sutlely indicated that he didn't want Bo to go into details. Cael knows how to coach and how to break down the strengths and weaknesses of opponents - but he's not about to share the secrets.

I like watching Bo wrestle, he reminds me of Q, got good funk and roll. It almost got him in trouble yesterday with some self-back points. Ryan was trying to get a review on those uncalled points.

Not sure how good Martin's offense is, he wrestles like most Hawkeyes. I think that Martin's defense stacks up nicely against Bo. If Martin can improve his defense and keep the score low, he has a chance that Bo may make a mistake and get a couple of points late in the match.

At the same time, Bo is going to improve as well and attack against an opponent like Martin. RS Frosh vs. True Frosh, this might be one of those 4 year match ups like Brown and Stache that we can look forward to.

This is OP painting a narrative here. Bo was looking into the crowd. He then turned to Myles for the handshake and gave him a "good match, man"

Sending a message to Martin? Other than showing some respect for his skill... Absolutely not

Some of you have let Martin's dad get to you a bit. Unfortunate.

Yup. Martin is a tough customer. He is damn good already and should improve even more in that high-end room.

Yes, you could see on TV that BOTH wrestlers were respectful of each other after the match.

It will be fun to watch those two for the next few years. Damn talented youngsters. I could see either one moving up a weight....they both have the frame to add more bulk. I think Courts is a senior so depending what OSU has in the pipeline, it could happen. Martin and Jordan are both pretty tall and could fill out at a higher weight.

Ohio State is gonna have some lineup juggling to do next year in the middle/upper weights. Courts and Mark Martin are both SRs, and BoJo was more effective at 174 than 165 this year.

True FR 197 Kollin Moore is having a good but not eye-popping year on the open circuit. I suspect Ryan is comfortable with him starting next year. I'm less sure Ryan will want both Moore at 197 and Rozema at 184.

Put that all together, and I suspect it'll be BoJo 174, Myles 184, Moore/Rozema 197, Snyder 285.

But then what about 165? Best guess is Prezzia or maybe Kresevic. Ryan probably will want to shirt incoming White and Cleary. If he bumps his son up, then he'll have to start White as a true FR.

They'll have another decision to make if Tomasello can't hold 125. Rodruiguez is a 133, and Manuche got teched by Garrison White.

TL;DR version:
- 125: Tomasello or Manuche and pray
- 133: Rodruigez or Tomasello
- 141: Hayes or Micah
- 149: Micah or Hayes
- 157: Ryan
- 165: Prezzia or Kresevic
- 174: Jordan
- 184: Myles
- 197: Moore or Rozema
- 285: King Kyle

Really? He hasn't impressed me at all with his offensive skills in either of the matches against Bo. He didn't want to wrestle Bo yesterday....he wanted to dance around for six and a half minutes just like the first time and try to make it come down to a single "counter scramble" or ride-out situation in OT. The only time Martin wrestled was when he HAD TO in the 3rd period down a point due to RT-Advantage that he could do nothing about and about a minute remaining. As soon as he was "forced" to actually wrestle Nickal, he quickly gave up a 10-point 3rd period to lose 11-4.....yea, that's some kind of display of "unique wrestling ability"..... Yawn, there is nothing unique whatsoever about the boring @ss - clearly against the spirit of wrestling's rules - "style" that Martin has used BOTH times against Nickal.....not unique in the least and not the first wrestler to attempt to employ such "back my way into a win" tactics. He got what he deserved -- he thought Bo would just be satisfied trying to "hang onto" the lead and would be unlikely to attack, so he finally became the aggressor out of necessity. Bo allowed him to think this was the case for about the first 20 to 30 seconds of the final minute to get him fully "bulled up" and "lured in" and then he pounced and not only pounced but manhandled him to his back.

Look for Myles to keep up his "running ways" when they meet at B1Gs because Martin knows that he can't beat Bo ACTUALLY WRESTLING him after giving up a 10-point 3rd period when only moments earlier he thought he had a real good shot at winning the bout! Nickal ripped his heart out, chewed on it a little bit and then spit back out.

Cael said "you don't have to answer that." Then Cael said he was just kidding. If you've seen Cael's other interviews, he has a dry sense of humor.

It's at the 3:08 mark of this video.

Some of the comments in this thread are madness (they're easy to spot).

Myles Martin is a TRUE FRESHMAN, highly touted coming out of high school (#4 overall, I believe), and Cael wanted him.

Any message Bo sent was during the match, not after.

Yes, agree with that. The message sent was absolutely during the match. Bo didn't simply avoid engaging Martin to win - which he could have done with the 1 point lead on locked-up RT-Adv (something 99.99% of wrestlers outside of PSU in the b1g would have done with their coach's encouragement) - nope, once forced to actually wrestle, Martin got something he did not expect, Bo wasn't satisfied with just a win, Bo was still going for the pin and bonus points. Bo registered a 10-point 3rd period to turn a match that he was losing 1-4 going into the 3rd into an 11-4 lopsided win that could have potentially resulted in a pin (Martin was saved by the whistle and had been on his back for an extended period of time). That 10-point period to win going away has registered a spot in Martin's psyche going into b1g's and National tourneys - and it will have an impact on their next meeting.

Sometimes it's hard to watch these matches and not let our emotions and support for our guys to come out. I'm guilty on occasion.

I love this sport and enjoy good wrestling, regardless of the team. I try to look at things in as unbiased view as possible.

Myles is really talented. A true freshman who was doing what he and his coaches felt he needed to do to get a win. He wrestled the same way at the NLO. Not the most fan friendly matches, but I understand. Cael employed the same tactic at 165. That's good coaching. Maximize bonus points in your strong weights, minimize bonus against you in your opponents strong weights.
Myles will hopefully improve his offense with more time in the OSU room and these battles should only become more entertaining.

Completely disagree - Morelli was every bit as aggressive offensively as Jordan. Just absolutely not correct to claim Jordan carried the initiative the way Nolf did against Martin. Just simply not true. In fact, after the BJ's TD in the 3rd period, Morelli escaped and the match was 3-2 with no RT-Adv for either wrestler. Jordan proceeded to spend the final 40 seconds of the match running away from Morelli who was pursuing him all over the mat to "wrestle" and make a TD attempt - quite contrary to your claim. Complete nonsense that Jordan unilaterally carried the offensive pace and initiative the way Nolf did in his match with Martin - just because you say it, doesn't make it so!

Wow that was fast!

Good to have Gregory back but was it me or was that one of the hardest reads on the internet? Ever???

It's not just you. The lack of punctuation and paragraphs make for a difficult (almost painful) read.

Well Said Roar, Martin is impressive considering he is a True Freshman. I wonder what a True Freshman Myles would have done against True Freshman Bo?? I still take Bo but I would not put huge amounts of money on it. Myles dad may have said a few things he should not have about PSU, but Myles as far as I can tell has been a very classy guy. Myles is heading for big success, I just hope it is not at the expense of what hopefully will be PSU Championships.

If Bo did any of the things being discussed here: sending a message, going for bonus specifically because of Martin, etc. -- doing anything other than regular course of business ...

Then Cael will be having a long talk with him. Or, more likely, a very short and blunt talk with him.

Do agree with that E-J.... Had nothing whatsoever to do with Martin per se - believe Bo would wrestle the same way against anybody attempting to such a strategy even once he gets the lead in the third....."wrestling" and attempting to stick his opponent to the mat until the horn sounds (e.g., pursue, pursue, pursue....). Really much of it comes from the counsel PSU's coach's give as to what to do in this situation (e.g., up by a point late in the 3rd)...."KEEP WRESTLING" and when PSU's coach's say this, they mean "really wrestling", not attempting to avoid your opponent and just secure the win. No better example of how PSU coach's their kids to wrestle in this situation, and what mindset to have, versus tO$U's coaches than Bo's match versus Martin versus Bo Jordan's match against Morelli. Identical situations during the last minute of the 3rd Period in both matches - Nickal kept wrestling with the goal of sticking Martin, while Jordan ran laps around the mat just trying to "get out of dodge" with a 1-point win.

Martin now knows that he can run, but he can't hide, eventually he has to actually wrestle (especially if a quality official is working the match) and when he does decide to wrestle......

If Bo and Martin do meet up at B1G's, Martin's nightmare scenario is going to be an early takedown and lead by Bo along with a long ride and potential turns, etc... This will throw a monkey-wrench in Martin's strategy as he will now have to expose himself and wrestle the entire match to try and catch up or lose with a whimper..... If they meet again, my prediction is that Bo widens the gap even further before Nationals.

STFU. You freaking jinxed him.

Lemon and Franklin. Perfect. Have at it. You are the 2 posters on this board who would complain about a good BJ.

Who wins the BWI internets tonight? KFM does. Almost as good as your teams performance.

LemonFART...could you imagine having a beer with these guys? Top Five things I'd rather do:

1. Watch a rerun of the Zain/Sorensen match
2. Listen to an Amalone sermon on Cael
3. Get a Bo Nickal haircut
4. Steal cookies from Sam Stoll
5. Clean the tanning beds at tOSU during an off season team GTL (see Jersey Shore) day
