Duckworth: "
This is a very high level hire for any high school wrestling program, but for one that has a natural pipeline to Oklahoma State, Kyle could coincidentally play an interesting role in the future success of the program.

Two prominent and nationally ranked Stillwater stars, that fans of recruiting currently have their eyes on, include senior to be Carter Young and Cael Hughes, who as a freshman last year lit up the high school wrestling world and won a Fargo title and became an Oklahoma state champion."

Jacob Kasper: "This isn’t getting the attention it should. In the current college wrestling arms race, OSU changed the game. They now will have an elite coach, familiar w/system, at a local hs. Allows top recruits to move in hs & train in Stillwater & their RTC years earlier. Revolutionary."

Revolutionary feels a bit hyperbolic to me, especially with the Indiana Lee brothers practice of moving to State College & doing their HSSR years remotely, while training with the NLWC, but Kasper's an enthusiastic wrestler & fan. Also, I'll be curious to read some of yous guyses takes on the Stilly High transfer / recruitment history, which I'm a little foggy on.

My take on it is that you just alerted the HR to something else they should have been killing Carl about all along, but were just plain too -.....- to notice all along. That is until Paul Glynn gets a gig at Waverly Shell Rock after his college loans get repaid by the HWC.

How's that;)???

"Revolutionary" is definitely hyperbolic -- any prominent athlete is free to move to State College and be trained daily by David Taylor when not at NLWC.

Regardless, what was stopping them before, that this hire is suddenly the solution to?

I mean, presumably Smith would be the big draw -- but since the Class of 2014 (as far back as I care to look), only 3 prominent D1 recruits transferred to Stilly High: Chandler Rogers (from WA), Tristan Moran (AZ), and Carter Young (Tulsa). And Rogers doesn't really count -- older brother Jordan enrolled at OKST first, then the entire family moved there.

Also: as if Smith's recruiting has been lacking in some way.

Don't doubt that the high school program will be better. Seriously doubt this will turn into a recruiting advantage for Smith. Let alone a revolutionary one.

Very, very hyperbolic. Isn't it pretty commomplace for former atheletes to go into coaching?

Just take a look at Iowa City. A Hawkeye wrestler turned coach has led both the City High and West High programs since the 90's.

Natty champ and HOF-er Brad Smith was at City High for 2 decades. He is Iowa's winningest coach.

Natty champ and fellow HOF-er Mark Reiland was at West High for 2 decades as well.

Their successors are both former Hawkeyes as well(Cory Conell and Nate Moore).

Not to mention that a 3rd high school was added to the school district in 2017. Their wrestling coach: Joe Williams.

Lehigh alum Jon Trenge is the head coach at Parkland, yet all the transfers go to Beca and NDGP (whose coaches attended Lock Haven and F&M).

The article below is a different tone than the one from pistolsfiringblog.com. More facts, less hyperbole...though some local writers of all the top teams get excited and could write with similar-level elation. The Kasper comments are a bit over-the-top, but I like it -- as you say, he's enthusiastic, nothing wrong with that.

I believe the article is focused on the two kids now at Stilly High. Just guessing that Oklahoma State would already be high priority, even without a coaching change, so not sure what's different.

The last 10 years of roster info show the previous HS coach was already preparing some solid recruits to OSU. Of the 9 rostered wrestlers from this Stillwater High, the names Kaid Brock, Joe Smith (where else is he going to go?), Chandler Rogers, and Chris Perry stand out. Pretty good contribution from one high school.
