Long time reader and 1st time poster. Week#9 CFP rankings had PSU at #2 and OSU at#6. That week PSU drops a heart breaker to #6 OSU. This caused PSU to fall 5 spots to #7 in week#10. Fast forward and lets compare the impact of Miami losing to the Pittiots. Week #13 Miami was ranked #2 and Pitt was ranked #84, yep EIGHTY-FOUR. I was physically present at this game to watch Pitt totally destroy/man handle/never in the game Miami U. The impact for Miami is falling five spots to #7. Really. What a Joke. Why? Could it be that the committee is so enamored with Clemson that they want to add a shouldn't be highly ranked Miami to the win column for the Clemsonians? I can't take it. I am outraged. What a joke.

All the rankings are posturing for whatever result comes to pass. Miami was overlooked until they beat ND. Then they got the rocket. They are kept at 7 to inflate Clemson's win or, if by chance they pull off the upset, the climb up isn't as far.

Miami has wins over ND & Va Tech...we didn't have those. How far did you want them to fall?

I think Miami is a joke and Clemson will prove that Saturday but at 10-1 they weren't going to fall behind us or Ohio State.

At that point in the season, we had blown out Michigan, beaten Iowa and blown out Northwestern. That's at least equal to Miami beating ND and VA Tech. And we beat the Pitt team that they lost too. Plus Miami had close wins against bad teams in UNC, GA Tech and Syracuse. Sorry Mr. Unbiased but your act is weak and transparent.

You constantly slam Penn State for only having one win against a ranked opponent, yet you bring up Va Tech as a quality win for Miami....a Va Tech team who has 0 wins against ranked opponents. This is what I mean when I say you're biased.

Him again? Thanks for doing everyone else's dirty work. You should take a rest from arguing with someone so disingenuous though.

Agree. But after reading some threads, it’s safe to say that the idiot 79SR guy is too much of a dimwit to comprehend.

78 to answer your question a #2 ranked Miami who convincingly loses to the number 84th ranked team in the country does not belong in the top 10. The wins over ND and VT have lost some luster. My point was at one time miami and PSU had #2 rankings this year and lost both falling 5 spots. Now look who they lost to. Should the losses be judged equally?

At the time we lost to Ohio State....Northwestern was either 3-3 or 4-3. That wins looks better now. Iowa hadn't beat Ohio State yet. Michigan wasn't getting any respect.

Notre Dame & Northwestern are comparable wins. ND is obviously better in the yes of the committee though I'd love to see that matchup. Va Tech is a better win than Iowa/Michigan

I think Miami's a joke but we all knew they'd be 6-8, right? We know how this works by now.

Michigan is arguably the worst 8 win team in history as they don't have a win over a team 500 or better.

Again, where do you want Miami ranked? I'd be fine with us ahead of them but that's going to happen in a week anyway unless they beat Clemson then we shouldn't be ahead of them

Iowa at Kinnick at night is better win than beating Va Tech at home.

As bad as Miami is they weren't falling out of the top 10. That's not even reasonable. Yes compare the losses but you have to look at everything. I don't even like Miami but if you thought they were falling out of the top 10 with one loss after being ranked second you weren't being realistic

Okay...let's go with that. I disagree but it's close. We still have two losses and no win that makes those losses forgettable. We're going to end up 6 or 7. Why such outrage now? It will work itself out.

Again, I don't feel they should be recognized as a top 10 team and our football program should be ranked ahead of them. I do agree with you that Miami will get cooked this week. If they don't then just maybe they should be in the top 10. Good Talk.

Fair enough. Go Clemson lol

Virginia Tech and Michigan are identical teams this year. They both lost to every good team on the schedule. I'd say the Hokies losing to GT is akin to two losses.

If Miami can claim VT as a quality win, then 4 teams can claim Michigan as one.

Va Tech beat multiple teams with a 500 record or better. Michigan had none
Barely winning records. So a middle of the road team that ends up 5-6 playing against teams like OSU, PSU, MSU, UM, etc. isn't as good as a 6-5 team who plays the likes of Syracuse, Pitt, Duke, NC, etc.?

And got thumped by every team with a pulse and by one who didn't. Swap the schedules. Michigan probably doesn't lose to GT. I can't say that VT would beat any of the teams Michigan lost to.

Maybe Michigan State
Georgia Tech isn't good but they are good at home (5-1) and that offense is tough to prepare for. They also beat a solid Wake team
I do agree with you here but Va Tech, right or wrong, is ranked. Michigan and Iowa arent

Now beating Wake Forest in your mind is a good win?

Those five wins were... Jacksonville State, Pitt, UNC, Wake Forest and Va Tech. Murderers row...

Unfortunately the committee believes so

Solid. Definitely Not as good as Northwestern. Probably on par with Michigan. Not as good as Iowa. Better than the rest of our wins. Fair?

We are going by rankings now? Michigan and Iowa are every bit as good as the LSU and Miss St teams who are ranked. And neither have embarrassing losses. It's blatant SEC bias. It makes the top look better if you rank the middle.

We can acknowledge bias plays a role but that's why we need to schedule better non conference games. Pitt as our best hurts us

Unless they create an open scheduling system which matches top ranked teams up around week 9 or later, scheduling OOC opponents is a crap shoot. In week 1, Alabama thought they had a victory over Florida State to brag about. Didn't work out for them.

Agreed And that's really hurting them but they at least tried. I won't be mad if we schedule Va Tech Auburn Georgia (I think they're on all the schedule in the future) and they fail to live up to being a great team. We tried. Pitt isn't trying.

No matter how much they want us to believe it is an objective process it is not....it is purely subjective so don't waste your time trying to make sense of it all.

That's only because Ohio State didn't play either of those teams.....if they had, you would be crowing from the highest mountaintop how good that Ahia win was! Buckeye trash!

The nationwide unbalanced schedules make this thing impossible to judge. Schedule plays such a big role in teams being anywhere near the top ten. The sample size of current top ten teams that have played each other at this point is so small and where the games mattered a ton. ONE top ten team won on the road vs another top ten team this season. Oklahoma at OSU back in week 2. All other top ten matchups resulted in the home team winning. The pick 4 invitational is a sham. Better than the pick 2.. but this isn't a real playoff.
