To settle an argument, Were there any strip clubs or nude dancing in State College in the 1960-1964 time period?
This may not help much - but might lead to some tangents:
IIRC, there was a place called the My-O-My that MAY have been open that long ago.
It MAY have had "go go dancers" or some such thing - at least in part of the bar (it was, IIRC, on college avenue where the DarkHorse later was … which may be something else now)…. and had a front bar and a back bar (the back bar may have been the dancers' part).
That certainly isn't very definitive.... but maybe someone else has more info.
Not germane, but up to the early seventies Levittown had a drive-in theater near the site of the old Langhorne Speedway, maybe a mile from my home. When I was in high school, they started showing porn films like, as an example, Behind the Green Door, and it was no problem at all to see the big screen from the surrounding streets. Many’s the time I’d sneak out at night for some fresh air.
I was there in the seventies as well and knew the MOM to be a titty bar.In the 70s, the My O My was a regular ol' bar in the front and a gay bar in the back. My RA did not hide that he frequented the back bar. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Yes, the My-O-MY had a strip club and one stripper became rather well-known. Naturally, Jack Sapia would not let an opportunity to make money pass him by.To settle an argument, Were there any strip clubs or nude dancing in State College in the 1960-1964 time period?
The "MY" had dancers in the later 60s, not sure about 64. You're right- they were in the back bar off the alley. But nude? Not really- G-strings and pasties. This may not help much - but might lead to some tangents:

Yeah, yeah, right in front of the shopping center. Lol.While driving somewhere near there - it was on business US-1 - my parents and I once did get an unexpected view of cheeks!

Original, fresh, out-of-the-box thinking. People have made a lot of money with worse ideas than that. There was a drive in on the Blvd in NE Philly that used to show porn.
I miss the drive ins. I think they should make a comeback. I have some changes that would help their business model.
The problem with drive ins is they needed so much land. Instead of building a theater on 20+ acres of dedicated land they should multi task and share a parking lot with an existing 9-5 business. It could be an office park, wharehouse, ect that is closed at night. It could even be a section of parking lot at a mall. Many of the malls are now dead. All they need is a screen which would be on an exterior wall of the building. If the drive in was at a mall their is also an existing food court and bathrooms. If the theater was at a office park they would need a small concession stand with bathrooms.
College Ave entrance was a gay bar. The Calder Alley entrance featured dancers. One dancer was a TS - I saw some guys from the front get chased out of the back bar. Becky’s Drive-in did the same in the Lehigh Valley. Men of a certain age around here still smile when one mentions the place. Today Becky’s is still around and in good shape. They play up the 50’s nostalgia vibe and offer a lot of the kids/summer action movies and seem to be doing well. Not germane, but up to the early seventies Levittown had a drive-in theater near the site of the old Langhorne Speedway, maybe a mile from my home. Yes, it must have been lots of fun watching porn films with a bunch of guys packed together like sardines. When I was in HS a few of us went to Strinestown drive in. 1 guy drove and 2 or 3 of us in the trunk (It was a late 70s sedan with a huge trunk). It was very intimidating at 16 years old to look up at the screen and see a 40 foot long wang and a vagina big enough to garage our car.

Strip clubs? No. Nude dancing? Yes.To settle an argument, Were there any strip clubs or nude dancing in State College in the 1960-1964 time period?

Hit Rita's one time. The dancer was a skinny girl, flat as hell, and I'm not even sure she took her top off. Never went back. One night in ‘ 68 there was a “dancer” at Rita’s. There was also a line outside. The police raided the place. When asked why they raided Rita’s, the police said that there was a line outside of Rita’s.
And you didn't learn after going to the bar?I stand corrected on which entrance was used for what. (My) Oh my!
I was there from 70-74 and my recollection was the same as Bob's. Straight in front, gay in back.I was there in the seventies as well and knew the MOM to be a titty bar.
I guess you had to create your own soundtrack with that sort of a viewing option. Not germane, but up to the early seventies Levittown had a drive-in theater near the site of the old Langhorne Speedway, maybe a mile from my home. Here you go.Shouldn't there be flags all over the field for this topic?
Come on, not a single Austin Nit reference? Slackers!!!When I was in HS a few of us went to Strinestown drive in. 1 guy drove and 2 or 3 of us in the trunk (It was a late 70s sedan with a huge trunk). That didn’t bother me in the slightest.I guess you had to create your own soundtrack with that sort of a viewing option.
You have it crossed up - the titty bar used the front entrance, and the gays used the rear. Not hard to remember...College Ave entrance was a gay bar. The Calder Alley entrance featured dancers. One dancer was a TS - I saw some guys from the front get chased out of the back bar. This was late 60s, early 70s.
If you notice, I said the College Ave and the Alley enterances. Really easy to keep it straight then. You have it crossed up - the titty bar used the front entrance, and the gays used the rear. Not hard to remember...

This thread made history cool.
On the subject of strip clubs, they don’t seem to be a destination for guys night out or bachelor parties anymore. Always figured it was a guarantee to hit one as part of a bachelor’s final night of freedom but from experience and sharing stories more than most are opting for different activities. Locally several clubs have shut down in the last 10-15 years and those that are left are really sketchy in terms of location and clientele.
Any thoughts from the crowd on the decline of strip clubs in the new millennium? PC culture? Internet pron? Fear of patronizing clubs and being posted on social media?
