1. Hey Vizzini, Shoop's pre-bowl speech about staying at Penn State forever didn't mean what we thought it meant.
2. The upperclassmen liked the head coaches that they were recruited by, and were put off by Franklin's differences from Paterno and O'Brien. Nothing shocking here. The good news is that almost every player on Franklin's roster in 2016 will be a player he recruited. It will still be a young team, but it will be his team.
3. As much as some of you are determined to throw Coach Franklin under the bus if he doesn't win big in 2016, you are probably wasting your breath. Penn State has never been in a hurry to dump coaches when the early results aren't spectacular. Old Main doesn't fire people without giving them a chance to succeed--in fact, they are very slow to pull the trigger. The day that Penn State fires a coach in mid-season for poor results is the day the Apocalypse is upon us. Good for them.
4. Lots of people are completely focused on short-term results. Business leaders and shareholders keep their eyes on stock market values, and they are not alone. What have you done for me today? The problem, of course, is that sometimes only looking at immediate gains is detrimental to long term success and improvement. Shoop has decided he wants to be a head coach again, and he thinks that moving from one program to another will allow him to be more attractive as a potential head coach, and soon.
