Summary of Records Tied/Broken This Tournament?

OK, let's start with a few easy ones that everyone already knows.

177 - PSU's new points record
3.0 - highest average finish for a team (previous best 31 1991 Iowa)
10 - All-Americans (tied with 2001 Minnesota)
edited: 49 - Most matches won in a single tournament (previous best 46 1992 Iowa followed by 45 2011 Minnesota) - thx @Roar More for catching the error

That last one also has a bit of an asterisk because full wrestle backs is a fairly recent phenomena. For example, the 1982 Iowa team had two wrestles lose in the first round who were eliminated. There was no double elimination for first round losers back then, so they missed out on the opportunity to go on a 7 match run (not that that happens often). That team won 42 - within striking distance.

BTW I am being charitable to the 1991 Iowa team when I say they had an average finish of 3.1. To get there you need to assume their blood round loser finished 9th. You might also reasonably assign any other value up to 12.

Has anyone had 8 finishers 3rd or higher?

Likely would have been 9 if Kerk was healthy.

Unless you’re going to scrutinize every team, every year for the same what ifs, I’m not a fan of this type of “analysis.” My term for it is “pube trimming.” It may make you feel better about the situation but it doesn’t change the underlying truth. (HB masses are great at it.)

Yes, the 1991 Iowa team had 2 firsts, 4 seconds and 2 thirds. (To go along with a 6th and round of 12.)
Yep, the list of most top 3 finishers looks like this:

SchoolYearCount of Top 3 Finishers
Penn State20258
Iowa19918
Iowa19937
Iowa State19657
Oklahoma State19317
Oklahoma State19377
Oklahoma State19397
Oklahoma State19417
Oklahoma State19617
Oklahoma State19627
Penn State20237
Penn State20247

Of course, 1931, 1937, 1939, and 1941 only had 8 weights.

Most times playing an NCAA promotional video at the start of every session that featured swimming, XC, hockey, baseball, softball, tennis, rowing and women’s bowling, but never any wrestling. Not kidding.

How about most bonus points?

Did the 48 wins give us the highest winning %? Am assuming not,

Bonus points will take some time.

Not sure about win %, I think I can check that easily. Stay tuned.

But I did get confirmation about 48 being the most, followed by 46 from 1992 and 1997 Iowa teams.

Good news, bad news.

First the bad news. This year's PSU team did not break the record for win %, only slotting in fourth place.

Now the good news. PSU's 2024 squad holds the record for highest win %. So there is that.

I include Minnesota in there, but I suspect if I kept digging I would find some teams better than their 45-20. But I will leave that as an extra credit assignment for any ambitious readers.

Edit: The above is in error. PSU's 2025 record was 49-11 (81.6%) bumping them to third. Credit to @Roar More

Most matches won wearing a boy’s singlet?
For Christmas back in the day my son wanted a Kazakhstan singlet. This was at the height of that Borat stuff.

The color combo made or emphasized or , well you know. 🙄😂

Where are individual scores located? I would like to add up the top scores at every weight and see how it compares to PennState's final total?
