Going to do my best here to make this short and sweet since it was a pretty long chat in person...
Anthony Johnson is my nextdoor neighbor here in Austin he is also the RB coach at Texas. He was just the Co-offensive coordinator at Toledo the past few years. We were chatting last night about the Texas program and recruiting. I asked him if he ever interacted with PSU coaches since he was in Ohio. He said since CJF and Urban Meyer arrived recruiting has changed in the northeast in a big way. He said they both are monsters and even in Ohio kids are constantly talking about Penn State. He said Harbaugh is a maniac but he knows how to win and that attracts certain types of kids too.
He said there were tons of kids he recruited who he'd ask where they had offers from while he recruited across the northeast and if they had a PSU offer they almost always highlighted it. He joked about the no talent required tweet but said CJF connects with these HS kids in a profound way and he said that even he has had to go learn about social media so he could connect with the kids better.
He spoke highly of the staff having met many of them at high schools and also said that Moorhead is a beast. Johnson used to coach in FCS and said he watched and admired Moorheads ability to adjust on the fly as an offensive coordinator. He said some of what Texas will run this year he got from watching Fordham. He said he can't wait to see Saquan and Miles Sanders on the field at the same time. He said once Miles adds some more weight we will have the best RB tandem in the B1G. He said 2017 both Texas and PSU will have 10 win seasons based on talent in the senior and junior classes and being in year two of new offenses. Both programs brought in new offensive coordinators this year. He said we should expect by mid season they'll be running 80% of what Moorhead really wants in. The other 20% he will trickle in to keep defenses off balance in the back half of the season as the teams you play are better. He laughed and said "y'all are going to be dirty in 2017 with that offense and your young players".
