Yea when did we start using it? I don't remember it in the 80's and 90's.
The first time I can recall was against Coastal Carolina in whatever year that game was. I didn't realize it had already become a thing by then and thought it was a stupid song for a football game.

What about Hey Baby at the end of the 3rd qtr? I would rather they played Jackson Browne's "Stay Just a Little Bit Longer"

I thought PSU blasted "Shout" at the end of the 3rd. Steelers have it right with "Renegade" but only when needed...we could learn a lot from them. Dial it up when needed. Not volume at 11 every play.

They do Shout at the end of halftime. I know cause I'm trying to turn up my radio to drown it out...it doesn't work.:(

+100 but everyone body says it all those "old" fans I like it. Obviously they don't go to the games because its the younger crowd and students that go nuts.

I disagree with the belief that PSU should retire the song. However, you are correct that the student section absolutely rocks when it's played at PSU.

I'd prefer Stay, but Hey Baby does seem pretty popular at Beaver Stadium.

It's the Boston Red Sox song - for Caroline Kennedy. A Massachusetts girl.
Actually that's incorrect. Neil Diamond stated in an interview that the song was written as a "love song" to his wife Marsha. Unfortunately the song needed a three syllable name to fit correctly, so Marsha was out and Caroline was first three syllable name that came to mind. So no, not written for Caroline Kennedy, just a coincidence of names.

Either Diamond has told multiple, conflicting stories, or you are mistaken.

Her revealed in 2007 that it was written for Caroline Kennedy. If you Google it, you'll find multiple articles about it. CLICK HERE for one.

Neil Diamond told this to the Today Show in 2014

Despite the widely-held belief that the 1969 hit is about Caroline Kennedy (daughter of the late President John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy), Diamond explained that's only partly true.

He knew of the young Miss Kennedy, but said, "I was writing a song in Memphis, Tennessee, for a session. I needed a three-syllable name. The song was about my wife at the time — her name was Marsha — and I couldn't get a 'Marsha' rhyme."

Enter "Caroline"!

Hmmmm....not the same ring to it....

Teams copy successful traditions all the time. Just like how PSU brought the 7 nation army thing to CFB, and now every team does it. It always seems weird that other schools would want to copy another schools tradition... but whatever.

I'll never forget a game against OSU at PSU, PSU was losing and the OSU fans started doing 7 nation army. I thought they were mocking us. Nope, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
