I asked him, "how come some Pitt home games get 40 to 50 thousand fans and others only 20K or so?" He said, "sometimes not even that." Again, he repeated the "disappointing" comment. He attributed the poor attendance to poor performance by the team, and he attributed poor performance by the team to poor coaching. What really stuck in his craw was the Pitt home game vs Navy when Navy beat Pitt. "It's no wonder people don't want to show up to the games."
