Love or hate the Tan one, the guy goes for it. No punting. "Minimal" ducking. To hell with the pundits.

Probably doesnt make them a title winner unless PSU has a collapse....but it sure could help solidify their spot on the podium.

I wonder if Campbell has been slowly weighing in under-weight the past few matches so that he doesn't miss time due to the weight descent rules

This must have been going on behind the scenes for approximately 4 weeks, as that's the best case for a true 174 pounder's descent plan. Will Campbell be a force, or will stamina / endurance be a thing?

i remember at the start of last offseason, people were speculating that tOSU was going to redshirt mckenna and mymar and make a run next year. that was not a great take.

Not many if I remember right. Just a couple in this community playing "what if", and making a case for a stronger tOSU vs a suspected weaker PSU in 2019-20 after Jason and Bo depart. It was a good discussion.

Campbell had tank issues in the 3rd last year, back down to 165 I dont see that anything will change this year

165 is already DEEEEEEEP,this move makes little sense.

Im thinking Campbell slips a couple podium spots with this move. Does Smith at 174 (compared toRomero at 165) make up for it??

Also hearing McKenna got dinged up and won’t go this weekend, must have happened in practice cuz he looked great against Storr

Maybe the move is also to try to save a couple of points in a certain upcoming dual? "Romero, I'm gonna have to ask you to give your robe to Campbell. "

Don’t really see a different outcome as far as points are concerned didn’t cenzo major Campbell last year?

How does he slip a couple spots from podium he was never on?

Less snarkily: Campbell has never sniffed the podium. Neither has shown anything this year. And both lost their jobs this year. Inserting Smith won't hurt their team score.

That sucks. He did look awesome. Him and a healthy Yianni should be one of the really high level matches of the tournament. Both are now dinged up it seems.

Campbell back to 165 was hinted last weekend in coach Ryan's post match press conference. Said he was certified at 65.
The move makes a lot of sense. Campbell and Ethan Smith are very even overall. Campbell won two close wrestle offs (where Smith did all the shots basically), and Smith beat him in the finals of an open tourney. Neither one has had showed enough (good or bad) to be the obvious choice (but its been trending towards the fan base wanting Ethan going forward. Also, its Te'Shans last year, and that probably plays into this (where as Romero has 3 years after this.)
Romero, has been underwhelming and I hear has an ongoing leg issue limited his practice last year and this.
TeShan and Ethan both deserve a starting spot and one of them going to 165 is an obvious way of allowing this to happen.
I highly doubt this has anything to do with the upcoming Penn State dual. Only a zombie apocalypse prevents a huge Penn State win. This has more to do with March and getting two guys in the lineup. Probably allows Romero chance to shut down and get healthy for next year (tho he may have a tough time finding a spot next year, if Kharchla goes as a true frosh).

Not sure either Campbell or Smith can AA in the respective deep weights.. but glad both will get a shot.

165 has been the bane of our existence recently (like your 125) and I hope Kharchla comes in next year and ends that void.

He did but i will give the performance of the year so far to Micic with his win over Pletcher. .

It was a beat down. Shocked all of us sitting there.
10 months ago, Micic and Pletch were tied with 30 seconds to go in the semifinals at nationals.
10 months later.... a beat down of epic proportions.

A huge Penn State win?? You do realize Ohio State will be favored in 5 out of the 10...right? Now granted Penm State will score more bonus and win then the dual most likely but I’d be shocked if it s a HUGE margin win that night.

Don't think this has anything to do with the dual, but it does have something to do with NCAAs. Campbell and Smith are both likely NCAA qualifiers. Both have the opportunity to win a couple matches(not AA). Romero likely wasn't going to qualify so this gives OSU some extra points.

Was Bo that long ago?

Think he means since then, Isaiah white not qualifying, marinelli decomitting, Romero not looking like what people thought he could be.

yea, post BoJo rs-fr and rs-soph year.
We have been snake bit finding a 165 for long term.
Thought we had:
Marinelli (committed, then flipped to Iowa)
Mark Hall (Most thought we had him....till he visited Penn State) (I know he's not a 165, but I think that was the plan at the time)
Isaiah White (grades, then apparently didnt fulfill requirements to get into tOSU or get into the room, while at Notre Dame College.
Campbell (transfer with wins at nationals, but not AA level)
Romero (not living up to expectations thus far)

Need Kharchla to come in, and end this 165 hole.. for the next 4 years. Hope he can hold the weight.

I stand by my statement. I expect to get our ass kicked again, like 2017... when we brought all of Columbus into Value City Arena, then got our asses handed to us 7 out of 10 matches. or was it 8 out of 10? (I think Snyder was in Russia that year)

Ya and Ryan sat Bo against Hall.

Campbell scored 1.5 points at nationals last year and 0 points at Big Tens, I don't see this year being much different.
