Team's taking a 747 down to JAX (leaves MDT at 1 PM)

I've never flown on a four-seven. Greatest aircraft ever built. They are disappearing from passenger service, this might be the last time.

All I know is, if I'm flying across the pond, I really like the idea of four engines instead of two. Twice as much, actually.

I've been on a 747 three times. Tokyo to Taipei and back, plus Tokyo to Detroit. Simply awesome.

The 747 has an "elegance" that the 777, 787, A350 or A380 will simply NEVER be able to match. The A380 in particular, that might be the ugliest airplane on Earth. But they are better economically vs. a 747.

I'm fine with the twin-engine jets (the A380, of course, is a quad-engine itself). ETOPS (a.k.a., "Engines Turn or Passengers Swim") is ultimately relying on statistics. If a twin-engine flight has both engines go, the engine failures are likely related in some way. There is no documented event in the last 20+ years of 2 engines going on an ETOPS plane for unrelated reasons. If both engines go on a twin-engine jet, you probably would have had the same issue on a quad-engine bird.

Wonderful aircraft. But, as others have stated, it's not as economical as it once was. I have yet to sit in first class, upstairs, in one and that is a bucket list item for me.

The 380 blows. Took one this summer from DC to London. The 777 on the way back was much better. Yep. Very sad to see the 747s start to go. Anyone been on the 787 yet????

I have flown in the upstairs cabin on 747s several times, primarily from Frankfurt to Mumbai (Bombay). The upstairs cabin was Business Class, however. I flew in the nose of a 747 (First Class) a number of times from Moscow to JFK. One flight was on PanAm shortly before they went bankrupt. I remember the interior of the cabin rattling so bad when we took off from Sheremetyevo that we all had the white knuckle death grip on the armrests. I drank heavily on that flight!
