Temple game. SEPTA is free for seniors? How's that work?

I'm thinking of parking at the Fern Rock SEPTA station Sat AM, taking the subway "downtown" for a bit, then on to the game and back. SEPTA's website says parking is free at the station on weekends and that seniors with a medicare card can ride free (I'm out of state so don't have a SEPTA pass) . But, how's that work? All the subways I've ridden for years have vending machines for tickets and automatic turnstiles for entry. Thanks in advance.
