What happened to the Vols? They use to at least be competitive, now they get blown on weekly. Florida just hammered them, now they get a 3 game stretch of Georgia, Auburn, and Bama.

Ugly

Remember when all their fans were on this board lecturing us about why it was such a smart move for Shoop to jump off the sinking PSU ship onto the life boat of the rising ship of Tennessee. A national championship was just around the corner while we were destined for failure.

Tennessee has made some incredibly bad coaching choices in the last 10 years. In 2007, UT won the SEC East (lost CCG) and then in 2008 went 5-7, so UT fired Fulmer. They hired Lane Kiffin, Derek Dooley, and Butch Jones. UT found out real fast about Kiffin, then realized that Derek Dooley not greater than or equal to his dad, then found out that Butch Jones wasn't all that great either.

It's about the same as Nebraska...an incredibly bad series of coaching decisions/hires that has now put the program into a really bad position. I believe the pain will continue for both teams for quite a few years.

Gotta thank the stars for O'Brien > Franklin. 2 homerun hires in a row.

Not really like UNL at all. UT has an endless stream of talent (that they can get into school) within a few hundred miles. Within a few hundred miles of UNL is nothing.

Tennessee deserves what they got for allowing that Schiano outrage to consume them

I don’t live in Tennessee, but I know people that do and they say the high school football talent there is not very good.

Tennessee competes with all the other SEC schools for talent in the Southeast...plus some ACC schools and other schools that recruit nationally. UNL learned how to recruit from California and Texas (and JUCO talent) and used that in the Big 8/Big 12 days. B1G recruiting standards haven't helped UNL but that's another story.

Bottom line, in both cases, both schools made coaching decisions that have impacted their ability to recruit.

now they got players fighting with coaches over not playing:

Vols LB Sapp says he never refused to enter game vs Florida

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Tennessee linebacker Quart'e Sapp says he never refused to enter the game Saturday during the Volunteers' 47-21 loss to Florida, contradicting what his coach had said after the game.

Vols coach Jeremy Pruitt said after the loss that Sapp declined a request to enter the game. Pruitt said he then asked Sapp to leave the sideline.

Sapp tweeted Sunday: ''I never was asked nor did I ever refuse to go into the game.'' Sapp said ''the current narrative has been created through miscommunication.''

''Never would I disrespect my team, my coaches, my family or the fans by not giving my all for Tennessee,'' Sapp tweeted.

Sapp also referenced a sideline confrontation from Saturday's game in which ''the other party involved had to be restrained.'' Sapp didn't specify the nature of the confrontation or who it involved. Sapp added that he expected that matter to be resolved internally.

The Vols are certainly a mess, but don't be fooled by the score in the UF game. UT had more 1st downs and almost the same yardage, but 6 turnovers.

Where are they now? LOL.
