A substation was attacked and destroyed on Moore County in NC. I haven’t heard details about how it was done but power has been off to tens of thousands for nearly a week. And the idiotic talking head are covering this like it has never happened before. Yet it has.
In 2013 a major substation was attacked and destroyed in California. The attackers surveilled and planned their attack in deep detail using military tactics. Investigators found they had marked off various key positions during daytime using stacks of rocks to predetermine optimum angles and distances. They first cut off communications and then attacked with a barrage of large caliber weapons that destroyed the cooling fins. This caused the transformers to over heat and shut down. The attack nearly caused the entire Simi Valley to go dark. No one was every caught or charged for it.
A 60 Minutes report showed that if a coordinated attacks on several dozen substations across the nation would cause the entire system to fail. These substations are all unprotected. Experts fear the 2013 attack was just a test run for future attacks. Or at least, terrorists could have watched and learned how to repeat it.
So is this another test attack? Did it have the same MO? Will there be multiple attacks coming? What steps have been taken to harden systems and improve security?
