It occurs to me that Terry Brands helped Henry Cejudo achieve great success, and Henry Cejudo, it seems from the outside, was/is out of the mainstream in his understanding of how the world works. From the outside, I would be tempted to call such a guy as Henry Cejudo a "lost puppy" type. It must take a great man (Terry Brands) and a great heart to help such a guy as Henry Cejudo focus and achieve for as long as he did.

Mike Tyson is another guy I would, as an outside observer, put in the "lost puppy" category. Cus D'Amato, Terry Brands, and no doubt many other coaches work their magic every day on young athletes. And they generally do so without any recognition, except in the rare situation that one of their athletes happens to be (and be made into) world class.

The purpose of this post is to appreciate Terry Brands and similar coaches. Let's please not inject other content, already repeated ad nauseam elsewhere, into this thread.

I would agree with what you're getting at ultimately, which is that Tony Ramos is an exceptional talent but is a guy who needs a strong mentor that can guide him to succeed much in the same way you described some of those other guys. It sounds like Terry Brands was that guy for Tony Ramos. We'll see how he does without him.

Thank you JRD for putting into words so nicely what I was trying to get around to thinking but couldn't quite put my finger on.
