Texas head basketball coach booked this morning for domestic violence

These situations are always a mess to handle from an ADs standpoint. The coach’s lawyer says he’s innocent and never should have been arrested (shocking 🙄) and says the complainant wants the charges dropped. Does she want them dropped because they aren’t true or is it some battered wife syndrome where they won’t press charges? It’s just a mine field for an AD.

Typical..

Beard's attorney, Perry Minton, told the Austin American-Statesman that Beard "is 100% innocent of these charges."

"He should never have been arrested," Minton told the paper. "The complainant wants him released immediately and all charges dismissed. It is truly inconceivable."

So it was all just a big misunderstanding, eh?

In Ohio, if someone calls on domestic violence, somebody WILL be arrested. It could be that someone, in an argument, threw a glass against a wall. That would be considered threatening. It gets really bad when you have a teenager acting out. The teenager can call and somebody will get trucked out of there. So consider a teen "cutting" themselves. If a parent tries to physically intervene, they carry the risk of being arrested.

Now, having said that, the majority of cases are the dad losing his temperature and that is extremely dangerous. Best to let the facts come to light and place blame down the road.

What's he supposed to say?

That sort of thing happened here a few years ago with a former student who headed down the hard drug path. His old man flipped out yelling at him and the kid called the cops. Dad arrested, story in police report.

Fast forward a few months and the son eventually physically attacked the parents and got an pretty bad looking strung out mug shot + shiner in the police report.

My first reaction re Beard was "be careful what you wish for." Who knows if he made a deal w the devil to get his dream job? Is he busting so much time at work that his home life is crumbling? Is he a serial abuser, or is it just a situation where the volume got turned up in a marital spat that started with him leaving wet towel on a hard wood floor?

If he weren't the head b-ball coach at UT nobody would know or care. I hope it was all a misunderstanding...but agree that there is no positive spin for this for the Longhorns.

Happy wife, happy life!

yep...happens all the time. Pretty common for a woman or kid to make that call out of spite only to realize they just lost their food bag. But there are also the other stories where cops used to leave the home only to have to come back to see a murder suicide.

No easy answers and no "one size fits all".
