Just to stir the pot a bit... Thaddeus Moss talking briefly with Ellison Jordan about #Dapride16. Not sure if Moss has an offer, but he seems intrigued on Twitter. FYI... Thaddeus is Randy's son. Argue all you want about academics of Randy but the right support can help a lot.

Doesn't every college that takes marginal kids use that argument, or something similar? "Sure, this kid's a poor student, but he's a bright kid and he deserves a chance. We can put him in a program where he will have the support he needs to develop his full potential".
Sure, but not every school can back that up and still actually care about it like PSU always has and hopefully always will. Obviously it's still up to the kid, but the surroundings mean a lot.
I agree surroundings mean a lot, provided the kid belongs in college in the 1st place. I think Joe took chances on kids who were intelligent but never had the proper support. Clearly some schools take kids they know will fail, regardless of support, and use them, not really caring if they graduate or not. They tend to be the ones winning national championships.
None of the recruiting sites show Moss as having a PSU offer. Interesting that he has offers from some pretty good academic schools including Duke, Boston College, Wake Forest and Vanderbilt. Doesn't seem like grades should be a concern for Thaddeus.
Offers from those schools are usually positives for me, when scanning the offers lists.
Those schools value academics and graduation like Penn State.
