Thank God John O’Neill is not a wrestling ref

Keep that crook away from the mats.

He should never work another Big10 game again.
His past comments "you guys are lucky you're even playing" make Head Referine Dave Witvoet look fair and impartial by comparison. He has a job because Big Ten. No other reason fathomable.

IIRC O'Neill was the ref for the infamous one-hop interception and the FG 5 sec after the play clock expired, both in the same game against Ohio State.

Speaking of touchdowns botched on replay: and the ref for the goal line fumble call at Nebraska.

Agree he was brutal, especially on the overturned TD call. But perhaps we caught a break on the overturned targeting call.

Make up call that doesn’t have nearly the same impact
Not so sure about that -- having a key player forced to miss the first half next week against Michigan would've been a big deal. Recalling a few years ago when Brandon Smith got that early bogus targeting call against Michigan, then Jan Johnson got hurt, and we were down to our 8th string LBs in the first quarter.

But yes, much less impact to this particular game.

Yeah. I meant that particular game. That said, we have far more depth now - we can run 7-8 d linemen out there on rotation.

Did O'Neill have anything to do with either of those over turned calls? I thought those were made by the the official in the replay booth, not by the officials on the field. The announcers made mention many times that it was Tom Kissinger who made those calls.

Well he sure as hell was involved in the bogus, rushed 1st down spot after the QB sneak fumble. Right before the TD. Garbage

The overturned targeting call was a call made by the official off of the field. Not the freaking clowns on the field.

Didn't PSU win last night?

Not by enough.

I had the pleasure of watching the game with a couple from Illinois that were hawk fans. Lots of rasslin talk mixed in w the football.

Number of dan gable references - 3
Number of it's our year - 0
Length of time talking 80s - at least a half hour
Length of time talking present team - 5 mins

Winks his wife gave my wife - not telling

I was watching with a couple of people and as soon as they replayed the hit I said it was a bad call. He led with his shoulder with helmet hitting him from the initera of the contact. If they stop allowing that contact football has a problem. Watch a game and see players give up a play because their afraid of getting called for those type of plays.
The problem is the inconsistent interpretation of what is targeting.
Another prime example of calls being called with 2 differnt guidlines is interference. Defender grabs a wide receiver or causes subtle contact , it's an automatic call. Example was the call on Reid.
When receiver grabs to improve his position it typically doesn't get call. Example was Iowa touchdown against Reid. Note: Although I thought it was offensive interference, it was a phenomenal catch.

It was an unbelievable catch and allowed to just play football unbelievable is a sufficient adjective. The ticky tack bullshyt bar the clown crew set negates that catch and the play should have been just a ticky tack offensive interference call.

May I recommend the football board, given this if for wrestling. This topic is discussed ad nauseum there. You'll get multiple threads, anger, humor, disgust, pettiness, and dozens of other fan emotions/behaviors.

I was merely commenting on the post that was listed. I have seen many abstract post and comments on this board from vocation spots to food favorites.
Personally this site is the only social media site I participate in. No Facebook or Twitter. I have probably looked a half a dozen times at HR when someone comments about an issue.
The football ref comment was refreshing for me. Although it was an non wrestling issue it still shows how human element and judgement can impact a sports outcome. An wrestling example would be the ending of the Oliver- Steiber bout. That would be called a segway in journalism.
Just having some fun Roar. Thanks for all your wrestling input.

I see nothing wrong with an occasional football conversation among the members of the wrestling community. It isn't like our conversations are to be limited to wrestling, Iceland and craft beers.
Don't mind an occasional "distraction" either. This has potential to take off in a bad direction -- and none of us want that. Let the bad football stuff on the football boards, imo. I still don't see it's value here.
