The Alumni Council is going the way of the Old Guard Trustees.

The support here is wonderful. This election is so important. The alumni council is going the way of the Old Guard trustees, insular and self perpetuating. Their bylaw changes that prevent the alumni association members from self nominating or even collecting 50 signatures from their fellow alumni association members to get onto the ballot is just terrible. Shamefully "Some AC incumbent candidates seem to feel it's 'no big deal' about the bylaw changes..." How can this be a good thing? One incumbent even continues to support their actions because they were in majority of the vote. I guess it was too hard to stand up for the rights of the alumni association members and stand in the minority.

Everyone needs to vote today and then spread the word to your contacts by email/ Facebook/ Twitter. Don't give up.

Took me ~1 minute to vote for Elizabeth, Dave Paterno and the slate of 10 alumni that are fighting to get this PSAA to take its head out of the BoT's backside.

For those who haven't been closely following the recent PSU AA activities....

My apologies if previously posted. But a summary of the recent PSU AA Bylaw changes:

"The PSU Alumni Association recently made the following changes to its Bylaws (relevant Bylaw Section noted):

- Added twenty-one appointed seats to Alumni Council – and gave the President and his/her proxies the authority to add/delete positions on the Council at their sole discretion. None of these positions are voted on by the membership. (Article 2, Section
1(a))

- The elected members of the Alumni Council
(of the 86+ members, only 30 are elected..."back in the day", all of the members were elected) are no longer able to compel a meeting of Council, and Alumni are not permitted to attend meetings of THEIR association (Article 4 Section 1(b) and (f))

- The President (either directly or through his/her proxies) is given complete authority to: determine who is permitted on the ballot for election to the general Council, who is permitted to run for an Officer position on the Council, and the ability to terminate any member who he/she feels is not conforming to the party line (Article V Section 2 and Section 4(a), and Article 7 Section 3)

- Added the Immediate Past President to Council Officers. This addition is made on the heels of the Immediate Past President being mandated as a member of the PSU BOT. The reason for EXCLUDING BOT members from even being considered as CANDIDATES for election to the general Council, was the concern of “undue influence”. Why in the world would a sitting member of the BOT be ADDED to the Officers of the Council? (Article 2 Section 3)

Before giving even $0.02 to the PSU AA, please consider whether you wish to give to an organization which completely excludes you from its governance. Instead, re-direct your contributions by giving to a PSU student in your hometown….to help them meet their tuition expenses."

BTW - Anyone who thinks Roger Williams authored those Bylaw changes - and that they are not the handiwork of Dicky Dandrea and Stevie Dunham......come and see me about a bridge. :)

Of the eight no votes on the bylaw revisions, I know that four were cast by non-incumbents (including mine). That leaves the possibility of, at the most, 4 incumbents who voted no. By my count there are 15 incumbents on the ballot, if you include the ones who were on Council because they were Presidents of various alumni chapters and societies. Simple math means that most, if not all, of the Council members running for election/re-election, voted for these bylaws changes. Sad but true.

If a Penn State alum frequents this Board, they have a lasting interest in Penn State and in making it better. Part of making it better is getting the best possible people in positions of power. To do that we must vote....in every election, without exception. Do it now!

Yep- it's very easy. No more delaying. Vote today!! After voting you're not done until you urge your PSU contacts to do the same. Don't give up the fight. ;)

Has anyone had any trouble getting their ballots? We have heard stories from several people of getting alumni trustee ballots when requesting their alumni council ballots.
