The Annual Question: Smart TV recommendations...

I have a buddy who's wife convinced him several years ago to buy a big Sony (think it was Sony) TV for $3500 because it was the only TV that showed a true green, rather than a mix of colors green. Does that sound familiar? I'm not into TVs at all so this sounded strange, that a person would pay extra just to get a true green. That's the story he told me. Strange. Is it vaguely true?

"It's not easy being green."

Are the ultra HD TV's worth the money? The pictures look great in the store but I wonder if the signal you get from your cable TV provider is capable of creating the image quality that the TV is capable of projecting.

Related question. Does anybody have a Google Audio Cast? I understand that you can use those devices to transmit music from your cell phone to your old style stereo receiver and speakers.

No one broadcasts in 4K (Ultra HD) yet. What you see in the stores are usually 4K demo's. Every 4K TV upscales whatever you input to it to 4K Its rare to find 4K (Ultra HD) Blu-ray discs and the players are north of $300. 4K streaming by YouTube / Netflix etc., is usually no better than standard HD Blu-ray quality as the amount of data bandwidth needed for true 4K video is really high (50Mbps+).

In other words welcome to 1999 when DVD was just released. Or 2006 when Blu-Ray was released. Having lived through both I can say that unless you have a NEED for a 4K TV, there is no need to blow $2K+ on something that will in probably 3 years or less be available for under $1K along with more content to view on it.

Just purchased a new Samsung ultra 55Inch at Best Buy. I pick it up tomorrow. Bring on the bowl games!
