I'm sure Netanyahu thought this was a smart move regarding his reelection and maybe it is but he hurt Israel's relationship with America in a big way. There is no way a leader of any country can get involved in the partisan politics of America without his country feeling a backlash. That's what he did and when you pick a side, no matter which side it is, you are going to feel a fallout from the other side. This was a huge change today in the relations between the US and Israel and it will not be easily undone, if it is undone. Israel has very few friends in this world and Netanyahu today alienated half of what may be the only friend it has.
