you could argue that DT is one of the most crucial positions on a team.. as a whole DT's are most often some of the sloppiest, least-motivated, and dumbest position groups you would ever want to meet.
When I used to cut HS tape, if you wanted to find fat, lazy, and sloppy, you simply needed to focus on the defensive side of the tackle box. Even at the NFL level these guys need weight and snap provisions in their contracts.
Case in point, I remember streams of idiotic comments from Settle.. here was a fat sloppy kid who wasn't all that motivated and probably not even eligible spouting his agenda in every article that anybody would print. I think the best HS DT I've ever seen is fat, lazy, underemployed 26 yo living somewhere over in southeast San Diego.
More and more you're seeing motivated kids grow into the position.. while guys like Phil Taylor and others just piss opportunities away (only to find more as there is a lack of DT's to go around).
Talking to these guys is just classic, half of them grunt and mumble LOL... the few that can talk often never stop.-sg
