The Dems want more gun control. They would love to see the sale of semi-automatic rifles banned. Their view is that such a change to the current laws would save lives. Most Republicans disagree and will fight such a change.
The Republicans should propose the following compromise to the Dems: We will back a ban on semi-automatic rifle sales if you agree to a ban on abortions beyond 15-weeks of conception. We view this as a life saving measure just like you view the gun ban as life saving.
This could be called the life-saving compromise. Both parties give a bit and both get something they desperately want. I think this could be good politically for both parties. Dems care about gun control more than they care about abortion and I think the opposite is true for Republicans.
