this is the perfect example of the new college football game and why you MUST have a QB that is a multi-threat option. Clemson has less than zero running game but because Watson is such a threat, the field is wide open. And their OL isn't good. They just move the pocket on every play or he moves himself.

Can you imagine a QB like MRob with Barkley and the WRs we currently have?!!? You could have a ham sandwich playing OG and score 30 points a game.

The game has changed.

Great as MRob was, he wasn't nearly the passer that Watson is. Still can't figure out how he didn't win the Heissman?

Yup, and we have McSorley. I think the offensive will be good. Maybe not next year, but definitely the year after when some of the younger player have developed.

That's a bad no call on the hold at the point of attack on the Bama TD. The B1G refs might have even called that one.

Do not be misled: Clemson's defense is not good. At all. And Alabama's OL is pretty damn good.
They did hold OK to 17, FSU to 17, shutout Miami, only allowed 22 to ND, and 17 to Louisville. Stats tell a different story even though had a few games where they let up 30+ eg. NC). I love how people post without even looking up facts.

Finally a smart post. We cannot continue to rely on a pocket QB . Athletes are too quick now.Its not simple but a QB in college needs at least some mobility .
One more time in my life can we get a mobile QB ? I see none in the horizon
We are not even close to the same class as AL or Clemson now in football.
Sorry. Maybe okay if we can beat Temple , Maryland, NW. Ohio. Etc

The game changed many years ago.....it's just that PSU & The Big (10)(14) hasn't been paying attention.

The players have changed. Even the D-lineman are athletic and can run, so it's imperative that your QB be super-mobile. In the pro's, the offensive linemen are so good it's not as necessary, but in college if you can't run you get destroyed. See Hack.

I seem to remember guys like Fran Tarkenton being pretty mobile in the 1960s and beyond. I think it boils down to what you mean by mobile as to how things translate. Guys like Newton and Wilson are QBs first who can move around and run when they need to. Some of these other guys like RG are 50/50 or run first guys. With the size and speed of today's NFL player it's tough to survive for long as a runner. What's the average time in the NFL for an RB? Three years?

both of those teams showed why they were there

we would not have scored on or stopped either of them from scoring at will- it shows how far we have to go, and why CJF needs some time to fix things

I believe the QB at PSU who was a bit ahead of this trend was Zac Mills. It is unfortunate he got injured but I feel he deserves to be in the conversation regarding mobile QBs that played at PSU.
