Change is inevitable but in the case of Penn State football, has been happening at an increased rate. After 40 plus years with one coach and a staff that were there for 20 plus years, even one coach leaving is a big deal in Happy Valley. While it creates nice press clippings, I for one choose to see this as a great opportunity.
The past two 7-6 campaigns have been, if nothing else, frustrating for most of the Penn State faithful. So logic would follow that no one, not even the head coach was happy with the team's performance. So I will go out on a limb and assume he may have made the staff aware that no job was safe, not even his own. Therefore, I submit that perhaps when specific targets were not met those not meeting them suffered. Donovan was certainly a casualty, but perhaps others were given the riot act for say a 56 point drubbing.....
In any event, no one is happy with where we are and changes needed to be made. Maybe what we all should keep an eye on is how the new people actually perform. I believe CJF knew changes had to be made and he made that clear to all. Perhaps not outlining them all, and thus many began to reach out to check their options. Now that the other shoe has fallen and perhaps more will get their walking papers, the seas will calm and the serious business of preparing the team for 2016 will begin. I think recruiting will be fine and that the Coordinators are more than capable. Also note that we will not be installing a new defense to begin with, so that should help the transition on that side of the ball. With the new Offense said to be very simple to learn, perhaps that will jump start the team to fully utilize the talent it does have and will get things moving in a positive direction.
I tend to be positive, so that is where I will leave it.....See you at the Spring game.
