Hey MLB is content to offer baseball to LA and NY while the rest of the country eats, breathes and sleeps football. It’s their funeral.
If it is the Mets and Yankees in the WS, you will hear a distinct sound. That sound will be the rest of the country barfing and then turning on whatever football game is on.

Yankees with higher payroll nearly equal to that of the Royals, Guardians, and Tigers COMBINED!
Isn't the same thing happening to college football? The colleges with the biggest NIL will start winning every year.
I lost interest in baseball when Pittsburgh could no longer compete. I think College football is going to end up that way.

Five-star offensive lineman Josh Petty, a top target of Georgia Tech, committed to the Yellow Jackets over Ohio State, Florida State, Tennessee, and Stanford. While this is huge for that program, it also encompasses how recruiting at the college football level is changing in the NIL era.

According to Pete Nakos of On3, Petty locked in his commitment to Georgia Tech with a three-year "Roster Value" NIL deal worth at least $800,000 annually. This is among the highest-paid deals ever signed by the school.

Yes it is. That’s why everyone is predicting college football has peaked. Except Lando.

I read something that said most of the luxury tax collections go to player retirement accounts. I thought it went to small market teams so they could be more competitive.

You might think owners are rich and don't need the money but IMO the problem seems more like a collective bargaining agreement that favors players over league parity.

I think the Yankees pay about $30 million in luxury tax which isn't a huge penalty for a team that earns $500m/yr.

But here's the thing. 8 players make 70% of the money and 3 of them aren't worth much. Judge makes $40 million and he's probably worth it. Stanton makes $32 million and he's pretty much shot. They're stuck with his salary for 3 more years. LeMahieu earns $15 million and he's shot. Rizzo earns $17 million and he's shot.

Soto earns $31m and he's a free agent after this year. He might be worth $40 million but he's going to want a 10 year deal.

That’s exactly it. Because of the union MLB is the only professional sport where the players favor money over winning. Same as the teachers union. The teachers union could not care less about your children. Not every individual teacher, the teachers union.

I’m not going to get into a circular argument with some know-it-all blowhard. I’ll just say this. I was on the school board, re-elected twice, of one of the top public schools in Pennsylvania for 9 years. I had a union goon sit across from me and literally say, “What makes you think we give a shit about your kids. We’re here to get the teachers paid.” Just one anecdote that sums up 9 years of experience.

As far as pro sports, MLB is the only one of the 4 major sports where the union has resisted competitive measures. It’s not a coincidence that football blew past baseball as America’s game and left it in the dust.

My advice:
1. Don’t waste much of your time on MLB. It is like the Globetrotters vs. the Washington Nationals.
2. Put your kids in a good private school.

It's the smaller markets that don't want a salary cap
Not sure why anyone is mad at the Yanks, Dodgers, Mets, etc for spending money

And the top three players….just three players …..are paid more than the entire Pirates roster.

Pittsburgh can't afford a major league baseball team. Miniscule TV money and low attendance. MLB should move the Pirates to a city that can afford them.
