You need to face a couple of top 20 opponents before you can judge this.
We faced a ranked opponent already and shut them out.
Yes this defense is insane and will keep them in every game. If they manage to continue to keep 30+ points, this team will be special. This is not an easy feat.
The problem is the number of three and outs on offense, even Northwestern eventually put a drive together. We have a long way to go offensively. Can’t consistently run the ball and only one wide out that can get open occasionally.
They have yet to play a power team. WVU is the best opponent to date and what are they top 40?
Yeah I am hoping they get the tight ends more involved as well. They are both really good and TE's are known to help a young inexperienced QB out drastically. If anything, a confidence builder. I'd love to see the wr's get better separation because Allar doesn't like to take many chances at this point. (Which isn't a bad thing)
That (used to be) ranked opponent is dead last in total offense in the BiG. NW is 10th.
It will get better, but the thread topic is PSU's D. All that I am saying is play OSU, UM and if that works out Georgia, Texas etc. Then you will know how good you really are. A good win, but playing Northwestern won't tell you much.

Dude, if you’re four games in and are still looking for a RB, you got problems, and probably shouldn’t be talking about PSU’s defense .
Doesn’t matter, they were still ranked when we played them. They’re not ranked now because we beat them.
They aren't looking for a RB. They have 3 good veterans. They are playing 3-4 to spread the carries out and try to keep everyone healthy. Last year OSU was decimated by injuries at RB by the end of the season. They have 3 new OL and a new QB. The run game will improve as the season goes on. So until then I can't have an opinion? Bizarre.

Perhaps. Next week undefeated Maryland. You have a bye and then UMass? That game should be a real nail biter. Eventually you will find out how good you really are. Write it down.
That would depend on what you mean by "good". I am sure PSU is a very good team and I think the game in Columbus could go either way. If you want to find out how good you are, gain real battle experience and more national respect then play someone in your OOC schedule. WV is not bad, but it could be better. Michigan plays no one. OSU just finished a home and away with ND. They have a home and away with Texas starting in 2025 and Alabama in 2027. That is what I mean.

We just came off a home and away with Auburn…it’s not our fault they were down. And playing ND last year wasn’t exactly playing a juggernaut (about the same as us playing WVU)….and it’s still up in the air this year on exactly how good ND is. But we’re discussing this year and so far we have played a much tougher schedule than you, so we have proven ourselves more than you have.
Who is looking for a RB. PSU has 3 good ones. They probably would be doing even better if Yurcich didn’t insist on running predictable running plays between the tackles on first and second down against defenses focusing on stopping the run.
The TEs need to get more involved in the blocking. Right now they're hurting the run game
Exactly. Doesn't make much sense to label a defense "elite" because they stopped Northwestern.
Or WVU (who ran pretty effectively against PSU and the reason I told my WVU fan friends I thought WVU would finish above .500 this season).
Or Illinois
Or even Iowa.
Oh-high-ya, Maryland, and Michigan look like the best offenses on this year's schedule.
Nice start to the season by the PSU defense. But they sure haven't proven that they are "elite" to this point of the season.

Greg, I think you meant to type offenses instead of "defenses in regard to OSU, MD & UM.
They are very fast, and potentially elite. The big question will be can they stop Michigan running right at them. The Ohio State game will depend more on the offense IMO.
