Love what they are doing. Strange blocking well. Curious to see what else they have off of it.
Yep, just like Illinois did to PSU in 2021......I'd be interested in slipping KLS or Evans in there then flexing out to the 5 WR look to see if you can draw single coverage with no safety help.
Also would like to see 6 or 7 OL in the game instead of the on the line TEs and just murder the defense. I know we've used Effner on the goal line like this, but outside of there it's been 2 TEs. I get the reason, but sometimes it's a good demoralizing thing to show run and pound it successfully.
I don’t recall Illinois doing this. We have a balanced formation that I think still uses 5 O-lineman. I thought Illinois had an unbalanced line with 7 O-lineman. They just kept pounding us to the strong side and we didn’t adjust or simply couldn’t handle it. I like that our formation is balanced and can go either way creating a numbers mismatch to either side. I think the key is to not let the DT or DE get penetration and blow it up, which we’ve done a pretty good job of.Yep, just like Illinois did to PSU in 2021......
I believe Franklin mentioned the formation in his post game PC and seemed to indicate that they'll be using it regularly going forward.
Probably have play action to the TE off of the power backfield action.I'd be interested in slipping KLS or Evans in there then flexing out to the 5 WR look to see if you can draw single coverage with no safety help.

The "this" I was referring to in the post I responded to was using 7 olinemen. Which is what Illinois did when they pounded PSU's DL in 2023 and what Dave said he would like to see......I don’t recall Illinois doing this. Brenton Strange, had great blocks on both Tight T TDS.Not that strange to be blocking well
I've been anticipating a pass out of that T formation for a few games now. We've run 3 plays out of it, run left, right or QB sneak Bush push. Surely there are more wrinkles coming.
There’s a 16 page thread on the McAndrews site full of tight TsDamm, I thought this would be a post with a young beautiful woman wearing a too small t-shirt. I might as well go rake the yard.
Curtis putts better than he blocks. Couldnt resist.Curtis Strange, had great blocks on both Tight T TDS.
Yikes, my dementia again.Curtis putts better than he blocks. Couldnt resist.
Unfortunately I understand all too well.Yikes, my dementia again.
This is also likely why UM curbstomped us. Harbaugh seems to have built a throwback roster with beef on the lines and a fantastic running game, while everyone else has gone smaller, more athletic, and faster. We match up well with OSU because we've been modeling our recruiting and roster to compete with them. That's not a bad thing, but when an anomaly with a power running game comes along with a very different roster it presents matchup challenges. These things are always cyclical, with UM being in the playoff last year and nearly there again this year that might motivate some teams to flip back to recruiting in a similar fashion.Tangentially, the three TE formation we've been using is a twist on this single wing. It is simply a power run game. I've been waiting for football to make this move since all defenses have now been modified to stop the RPO and spread offenses. By that I mean, they are smaller and faster. The Ravens and Titans now are using this kind of tactic.
What I like is that we have three very talented TEs who can block and pass catch. When a D sees three TEs in the huddle, they feel like the power run is coming, but we can also pass out of that formation. The D can't load up on run-stopping, or pass-stopping personnel packages. This is what JoeMo did with Barkley, and James/Geseki and our talented WRs. With the same personnel package, we could run, power run, short pass, or deep pass. The D then had matchup problems with Barkley, Gesiki and our deep game.
