You all may know that I am "lucky" enough to live inside the Washington Beltway (after moving from the middle of San Francisco where I lived for several years). Both of these areas proudly represent their own special version of political hell on Earth.
SF is a literal shithole and the looney toons that run the place are as radical and crazy as any in the country. What they have going for them is that they have attracted other similar nutcases from all over the country and that gives them a big advantage (per capita) when it comes to measuring Leftie craziness with other areas like NYC, Boston, Chicago, etc. They have no idea what "normal" is in the majority of the US because they have been trapped in a leftist bubble world for so long.... that and the residents "enjoying" the highest rate of illegal drug consumption per capita of any city in the world. If there was an Olympics for Leftie politics, they would win virtually all the events relating to sickening, kinky, deviant, vile and self-delusional behavior. Not even close.
But, the nation's Capital is even more evil in it's own way. First of all, the politicians who have betrayed the American people here are not so drugged out of their minds (usually). So, they don't have that excuse. They and their media buddies know exactly what they are doing They are all about enriching themselves and keeping power (hard to tell which is more important, as they are both among the highest priorities for our lawmakers) Unlike SF, it's just not their immediate area they are destroying (like the Bay Area has been destroyed). No, their evil policies affect every person in the country. Their sense of entitlement and special privilege has transcended from the actual power brokers themselves (elected and non-elected) to the general population of DC and it's close in suburbs. You see it everywhere, but the very worst of the bad lot are the Federal government employees.
I won't repeat the (partially completed) list of Leftist crap that the USAID has done. Believe me, when DOGE gets into the bigger Departments, those $Billions will look like chump change. Be ready to be shocked when it's the DoD's turn in the barrel. They didn't flunk several audits for no good reason. Anyhow, back to our hardworking government employees. Why do they even have a union? They work for the people, not an evil (gasp) for profit capitalist corporation who is out to line their own pockets. Any "savings" the government derives from maintaining the right number of employees at the right salary levels goes to the people. Is that something to be countered by unions? That's a head scratcher.
Then there is the fact that every one of these departments/agencies are grossly over staffed. The "workforce" has been showing up at about a 10% rate in many of these entities since the beginning of the COVID era and they are mostly security guards to make sure the homeless don't move into Secretary Empty Suit's office while everyone is out "working" at their secret second (full time) non-government jobs. Even when they showed up, they were more of a hinderance to the nation than a help. What do an extra 100 "economists" or Black studies majors or sociology majors in each of these departments do all day? They either create "solutions" to problems that don't exist (read create bureaucratic roadblocks for citizens) or come up with new policies and plans to combat made-up grievances they (and the communities they come from) believe are required to rule the country. Where do you think DEI, Affirmative Action, onerous EPA rules, DOE mandates, racist highways, tranny shows at the Pentagon, etc. etc. etc. come from? Idle minds are the devil's playground. And, do the Leftist pols or the coward RINOs who want to virtue signal care? No, the more of these incompetent employees, the better. Numbers of employees equates to raw power.
So, in the last couple of days, I have witnessed a bunch of screaming Dem/Soc pols holding rallies to "protect" the USAID and Federal employees in general. I saw one particularly strange looking one say that the government employees are all "scared" another (the traitor Vindman) is holding townhalls to hear and act upon government employee "concerns",, They chant "WE WILL WIN" and vow resistance to every thing DOGE and TRUMP proposes. They especially are targeting the "unelected" Elon Musk ..... even though he's acting as an advisor to the nation's Chief Executive on matters dealing with the Executive Branch....
The message they are sending is apparently, it's a BAAAAD thing if the government is "scared" and "concerned". And that TRUMP is trying to be a dictator by REDUCING the size of government (another head scratcher). But, isn't that exactly (180 degrees) backwards? I recalled a Thomas Jefferson quote that fit this situation perfectly:
"When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny."
And, he added quite appropriately: "The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."
It seems to me Chuck Scummer and Auntie Maxine and Vindman and all the other Leftie pols who are so concerned about the poor government employees (and more importantly THEMSELVES) should read the Federalist papers where the Founders put this kind of situation into proper perspective. Tyranny of the Left is a much greater danger to our society and our democracy than anything TRUMP is doing.
I say let those grifting Federal employees shake in their size 6 1/2 AAA fur lined TEMU boots. That's how it should be. I also say that the 40,000 loafers who have already accepted TRUMP's generous buyout are smart to do so. They expect a big spike in that number today as the deadline for acceptance nears. Maybe a few of these scammers are aware the gig is up after all. But after the first offer expires, I want to see TRUMP come out with mass firings that will only offer two weeks severance and a swift kick in the ass as these scammers are shown the door.
