to listen to sg's first (and probably only) attempt at a Christmas song. After years of listening to the Trans Siberian Orchestra stuff I gave it a shot. Comments (good or bad) appreciated.
Last Christmas I broke down 10 Xmas songs and transposed them to the key of C.. after that I started working out my own versions. This is probably 35+ hours of work including practice, writing, transposing, recording, and my least fav engineering (by far my weakest point). A little background, when you mix a song you don't "crank up" any part, instead, you lower all the other parts.. you deconstruct.. it's kind of a depressing exercise..so if you crank up a solo you fade down the drums and rhythm tracks. My next thing I tackle is side chaining..this is where one signal triggers all the other signals to step back and let the new signal come forward. The best example of side chaining is the radio biz, where every time a DJ talks the pumping music seems to fade back and give him room.. the mic signals triggers a compressor that squashes the music track while the DJ talks, and the flips write back when the talking is over.. I'll try it to let lead guitar cut thru the rhythm tracks.-sg
