I called my state's exchange with some questions today. I was on hold for approximately 40 minutes. No music so I didn't know if I was cut off but a recording came on about every 5 minutes to tell me to keep waiting. A rep finally answered so I asked my first question. My daughter is living out of state and working on a temporary contract. Her contract expires in December unless she gets hired full time. If not, she will probably come back home while she looks for work. So do I apply for insurance in my state or the state where she is working. The rep was clueless, then asked if I could put my daughter on the phone. I said no, she's working out of state. So the rep says she can't talk to me about my daughter's health records because of HIPPA laws. I said huh? I don't want to talk about her health records, I just want to know what she should do if she's not sure where she's going to be living. The rep ten said she should call back when she want to apply for Medicaid or unemployment benefits. I said huh? What does that have to do with my question. I'm pretty sure she won't be applying for Medicaid.
I gave up and went to what I thought would be an easier question. I said that I heard open enrollment started on November 1st and the rep said that was correct. I told her I went onto the exchange but it wouldn't allow me to look at plans for 2016. The rep said that's because the website is set up for people who still need coverage for 2015, but sometimes it will let you see 2016 and other times it won't. I said huh? She then said that I open enrollment for 2016 started on November 1st but I might not be able to see available plans until November 16th. I said huh?
Then I went to e-healthinsurance.com. I didn't have to call anybody because available plans show up right away.
Thank you president Obama!
