Don't know if anyone caught the show, they go over some things in part one of two parts on the finals:

--Both Tommy and Ben talking about Ohio State punting on this year. Tommy says he wants this to happen, Ben agrees. Both feel that Ohio State should punt and redshirt across the board with Pletcher, McKenna, and Myles.

--Commenting on Lee and his dominance, Tommy doesn't see a challenger, Funky says Fix could be the guy, but is the only guy.

--Yianni-mania and how the PA announcer was awful, and the play by play guys kept yelling his name and they dislike the ESPN crew

--Both praising Nick Lee and his guts on coming all the way back through the consy for 5th.

--Zains' 95 match win streak, Ben says is in the top 5 for longest all time streak. They were shocked Perry gave Zain a close match, praised Ronnie for his amazing tourney.

--They claim Jason Nolf was actually injured worse than anyone knew and they claim he wrestled hurt for the entire tournament. Were amazed that Nolf could simply change styles and remain dominant...nobody even got near his legs.

--Tommy was bummed out, big time, throughout the podcast. Funky gave him good natured flack over it.

a bunch of other stuff, just a quick summation...

Meaning the arena PA announcer or the ESPN guy? If they mean Jason Bryant and Bryan Hazard, that surprises me. I thought they did a tremendous job and bring a lot to the tournament. They are very helpful with keeping track of what is going on where, I almost started a thread to say this.

He meant the ESPN guy. Ben was saying how when a scramble was going on, he went silent, mainly because he didn't know what he was watching. Ha!

I liked Ben and Tommy's podcast, always do. They talked more about each weight class at NCAA'S much more than the FRL boys. Good in depth analysis from 2 guys who have been through the wars. Looking forward to 165-285. I think that they said that they were going to record that on Sunday night. Should be available for my Monday ride home from work!

Yes, the ESPN guys, not the PA announcer. My bad. They said that ESPN needs an announcer that knows what is going on. I agree, but who?

Yeah, FRL was pretty scanty with the NCAA tournament talk. Pretty lame. Had to get my fix from The Inside Trip who did 2 hours on just the tournament. Sounds like that’s what Ben and Tommy are doing

Yeah, they had to cut the show off because they had only gotten through 157 after 55 minutes. Maybe that was actually their intent, who knows. Inside Trip, huh? I'll have to check that one out.

Tommy was expounding on what "fun" really means. He claims that "fun", means something entirely different when described in the terms of what Penn State does, and how Cael and his wrestlers define the term, compared to the common definition of "fun". It was rather amusing to hear Tommy expound on the meaning of "fun", he did a 5 minute soliloquy on the term and what Penn State really means by "fun".

Enjoyed t-row and funky. Very knowledgeable guys (even though t-row is a buckeye homer. Interesting back and forth.

Did not enjoy Inside Trip’s take on the NCAAs. 85% buckeye focus. 14.8% other wrestlers (from Ohio). .2% PSU and team race discussion. C’mon guys. At least bring a little more interest for your non OSU listeners. Sheesh! I’ll give them another shot but I hope it gets a little more balanced.

I think they said that Yanni tore his ACL in the Quarters? At least, that is what I thought I heard, as I had it as background today. If that is true, that is an unbelievable run to the Nattie for him, and hope he heals 100% for next year

Thanks for the heads up on Inside Trip.
Yeah, Tommy is a homer, but how could he not be?! He gets it though, and takes Ben's ribbing well. Seems like a good guy.

If Tommy wasn't a OSU homer per se then that would be really odd. He does a solid job considering he is constantly swallowing his pride. Can't expect him to do too many PSU commericals. I wouldn't if I was ex-OSU.

I've had that feeling about Nolf for awhile; i.e., the knee injury may be a lot more serious than most people think. At NCAAs, he was a very different wrestler than his normal high-pace, pre-injury self. He was clearly limited by the knee and had to really dial it down. For him to still win as easily/comfortably as he did was really impressive. But couldn't believe that some people were saying Nolf was "healthy" or "100%".

The Inside Trip is the Buckeye equivalent of Black Shoe Diaries. That said, the above poster is greatly exaggerating the % content of this episode. Their NCAA episode was damn good. Plus, their guys are very knowledgeable and quite funny

Thanks CT, I'll keep an open mind going into listening to the podcast, I'm sure I'll enjoy it. I like to hear takes from all sides anyway.

My podcast rankings..

T-Row and Funky
Inside Trip
FRL
PaPower
Mat Talk
Bloodround
Black Shoe Diaries
Steel wood Radio

Thought the inside trip was the best with the NCAA Post tourney. Just listened to the first part of the Trow and Funky which was also pretty good.

Was very disappointed with Flo this week. Post NCAA and they spent 25 minutes talking about EMU

Good ranking. Bloodround would be way higher if they trimmed the fat with the rhetorical tangents and such. The guys are funny and know wrestling - they just need to rein it in when going off-topic.

BSD should be so much better - need a non fan-boy on there who knows the sport better.

It wasn’t listed, but I enjoyed the 2 Pa Power Wrestling podcasts I’ve heard with Mason Beckman and Tristan Warner.

Agree 100% with your take on Bloodround.

Black Shoe has the one guy I can’t stand listening to.

Totally forgot about PaPower. They do a great job as well. Sorry I left them off the list. I will edit that now

This was my biggest take away, I had to go back and re-listen to make sure I heard them correctly. That's insane.

Some other tidbits I found interesting:
-I agreed with Ben and Tommy that Spencer Lee could change the whole culture of Iowa.
- Ben confirmed that he's in the Final 3 for the Wisconsin job with Bono and Hahn.

I'm selfishly hoping Ben doesn't get the job, so I can keep listening to this podcast--it's not always aces, but it usually is my favorite. Will have to try out inside trip some more.

I thought Tommy showed a good understanding of the PSU culture.

Tommy was funny, he sort of said something, without actually saying something...he never actually spelled it out. Both Tommy and Ben know what Cael and this culture is all about, they were running a sort of inside joke.

It is true

They said it was torn completely, so I'd have to guess yes. What a time to be a wrestling fan. True freshmen are doing amazing things on the regular.

As I said earlier...really enjoyed t-row and funky. Lots of interesting perspective from two legendary warriors.

Regarding The Inside Trip podcast...Yes. I was being facetious with my 99.8% Ohio focus. That said, I expected a bit more discussion on the drama of the team race...Cenzo and Imar...the Bo - Myles match. It was a 2 hour podcast and it was mostly spent on peripheral crap.

That said, I do realize it is a Buckeye focused show and I appreciate ANY and all wrestling talk.

I just listened to the first part of Inside Trip. I really like it and glad to have another podcast to listen too. Highly recommend PaPower College Edition also. Mason Beckman is as big a Lehigh homer as anyone in the business, but still fun. Really wish BSD podcast would be back, as we really don't have a true homer PSU podcast (excepting Willie of course).

We don't have any "homers" but we have the very best wrestling announcer in the nation, by far. Also, DT was one of the main announcers for "Off the Mat" on ESPN3 which was very good. I believe they also had J'Den Cox, J.D. Bergman, and a few others on that telecast. I think Tommy and Ben are in the right when they say the play by play part of the telecast needs a new man at the helm. He isn't a bad sportscaster, but he has no wrestling background and therefore misses the big moments because he doesn't have the proper descriptive language. Now, I don't know for sure who they would bring in, but they need to bring in a real wrestling announcer. It's a mystery to me why ESPN hasn't picked up the phone and called Jeff Byers.

Halfway through Steelwood’s pre-NCAA Show. Oh boy - I thought Garrett Carr was a homer. Up to 157 and one guy has 4 out of 5 Buckeyes in finals with 3 champs. Can’t wait to hear the rest

Oh man - he picked 8 finalists and 7 champs with a 190+ Point total (given that he picked Hayes to finish 3rd and Campbell to AA). Hilarious

Hey! It's me! The guy some of you can't stand on the Matcast! Btw, it's not homerism if you turn out to be right a lot

There’s Johnny Most homerism and there’s Harry Kalas homerism - the latter more palatable as it’s more nuanced.

Yes, it was mentioned here that homerism for our boys usually works out because they generally get it done. Hopefully that continues

Well that's kind of my whole thing.... I pick psu to win matches they maybe shouldn't because we have the best process to win such matches. It's not just blind optimism. It's trust in the best wrestlers and staff in the nation.

Mike Tyson is nuanced when compared to Johnny Most's homertastic broadcasts.

Though Harry was reasonably balanced.
