night. I love donuts! By the way, this holiday dates back to 1938.

Anybody in the York area, I envy you guys your Maple Donuts, which are by any measure the best donuts I ever had. I never thought one grease bomb was much better than another but Maple Donuts are the truth. People that never had them need to get some and stop playing around with Dunkin and Krispy.

Ha...a crucial question for you, fairgambit...
Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Kreme?
That's like asking Rolls or Bentley? Both superb choices. Actually, I prefer those little donut shops you find fewer and fewer of where they come in at 2AM and make a few thousand....they open the shop at 6AM, and by 9AM, they're sold out.

Isn't there an individual weight limit for acceptance onto the Bucco band wagon?
If there were, half the team's fans would be walking. Pittsburgh fans like their food. This is not to say we are fat....well some are, but most are gourmands.:)

Testify!
I can't drive through York County without stopping at any one of the Maple Donuts locations. If their coffee was on par with Dunkin, I would relocate. I would also be working-out 7 days a week in a losing battle for my health. But you can't put a price on happiness...

If you've ever had Krispy Kremes when they are still warm from the fryer with the glaze still wet, you'd know that they are the best. Living in York now, I do appreciate the local Maple donuts as well.

None of the above mentioned donut shops comes close to Federal Donuts in Philly. Addicting, incredible. Their fried chicken is also balling.

Quick story about Krispy Cremes, way back in the day when I was going to college in DC, I believe the original shop was on Route 1 down in the far end of Arlington when it was still an urban backwater. At 2 in the morning or so when the first batch of donuts was made, a sign in the window would be flashing fresh hot donuts. You would drive into the lot and it would be cops, hipsters, bikers, stoners, drunks, dealers, truck drivers, a real cross roads of America. You could only buy them by the dozen and they would melt in your mouth.

Krispy Kreme's, like many things, aren't what they once were. A lot of the locations here have closed.

We always thought Fasnacht day was donut day. Back in the day, Grandma made mashed potato donuts for Fasnacht day.

We have a local grocery store that makes donuts. Those that have compared them to Krispy Kreme or Dunkin thinks the store's are better.

Maple Donuts = Charlie Donuts (Charlie Burnside). I played sports with and against Nat and Damian Burnside back in the day.

But if you're in York/Lancaster you'd be better served by hitting some of the Amish stands at the farmers' markets.

A significant portion of Dibbs' ample girth is the result of inserting these wonders into my big mouth and chomping.

The previous post about the piping hot and recently iced Krispy Kremes hit the mark. I had my first two like that in a Birmingham suburb about 30 years ago and I was hooked. Their product has slipped since then, but within the past year, I had the same experience in a Louisville neighborhood.

I just may have to have a donut or two for lunch.
